Silkie thread!

Thanks! I'm not throwing any out. I did have my heart set on buffs, just because of how beautiful I think they are, but I really wasn't sure how much I liked blue or blacks and now that my babies have grown up, I'm in love with them. So either way, some big fluffy butts later one will still make me smile.
I also have my other 3 buffs I hatched out and so far so good, they are all pretty and golden looking.

I'm seeing gold feathers sproutingon the shoulders of what I thought was a silver partridge, obviously is a he. So, my question is, with the gold now, that means he is carrying both gold & silver, so he is not really a "silver Partridge", is that right?

So, does that mean, that if I breed him to a partridge hen, I could get pure partridge girls, but the males will still be mixed up? I"m using the theory that I've learned by trying to breed Birchen Marans. We can get birchen girls, when breeding the mixed gold & silver roo with a pure birchen hen, but the boys are mostly useless, so we keep just the girls.. Yes we get girls with gold as well, but don't keep them as I am only looking for the Birchens.

Thanks for any insight.

Question from someone who knows nothing about Silkies............. I have a small flock of LF chickens. Can I put a couple Silkies in the same coop/run with them?

Thank you for any help! Figured it would be best to ask the experts.

I have a couple of silkies in a run with LF birds-- BUT they were all started together as chicks at the same age-- actually the silkies are a bit older. Personally, I would never throw in a couple of silkies into an established flock of LF birds. I'm sure it can be done, but I know my birds. They would probably kill them. The two silkies that are in there with them are ninja kicking little silkies and they actually have the LF afraid of them. But I have my breeding silkies-- and they are separate and they have an entirely different personality. They are very docile and laid back-- it would be asking for trouble. I'd say no... but you could give it a try. Also-- you probably already know this.. but be very careful about your biosecurity and adding new older birds to an established flock. That is something I would also never do. If you hatched your own chicks or bought them as day olds... that's different.

BTW-- I just bought Pinless Peepers for my LF birds because they have recently started picking on my WCB Polish that they have also run with since they were chicks. LF non crested tend to really pick crested breeds.

My Crestless Silkie is no longer crestless it finally got it's fluff on it's head! Sex is still a question, But I am leaning more towards Roo, it still has no raise in its comb except the spot where it had an abnormal growth from being pecked. But I still see the streamer looking things in its crest even with it fluffing out!
It's a very sweet little thing! If it turns out to be a Roo, I would like to breed it to blue hens, if Hen then breed to blue Roo what would i get out of the crosses?

I have a question about coloring on my one silkie Andorian (Andy). I know he isn't the best quality, he has aqua skin and a singlish comb (with lots of points in the back). But he does have 5 toes! As a chick I thought he was a buff, but he seems to have some barring on his wings and back, is that normal for buffs? These two are my first silkies (don't mind the Houdan that got in the pic) so still just learning. I know the other is a partridge he is such a beautiful boy
