Silkie thread!

April thank you soo much for sending him to me!! I have to admit I love all my chickens but, this boy is special just like you said! He loves to lay on his back in my lap and sleep! haha I'm working on getting him into mating naturally by trimming him up. I'm hoping I do not have to do A.I. on him too! But, I feel his balance with all the fluff makes it a challenge and the girls love to beat on the poor sole so right now hes king of the hill in a top cage above all the chickens looking down at them like nah nah nah nah nah nahhhhh<< Corny I know

Pretty! Liking that Parti Boy there. lol

Hi,

Thanks I know how frustrating it can be with the infertile eggs. One thing you really need to do is be a good fluffy butt inspector. Remember dirty bumms can make it not happen

If you have a trio that you can get away with Not showing this year but, are nice enough to for breeding I suggest you trim all around the backside on both the girls and the boys, make it so when they go there is nothing there to grab the mess on the way down. Also be sure all your babies do not have mites or lice and irritating them. This can have alot to do with infertility and making the sperm count low for real no joking. If I am serious about a few to breed I basically mess with the boy every day for a week prepping him for breeding and the girls get a trim job too. I wish you luck with your fertility and if it doesn't happen check out a youtube video on Artificial Insemination. I know I get alot of chuckles and weird looks but, its very different since everything is really done externally and you don't need fancy equipment all you really need is time, a good trimming, and a clean plastic spoon! I know other folks go for the pippets but in reality you really dont need them.

Oh and yes mine are in the woods but, with either myself or my livestock guardian dog out there to watch b/c the redtails love silkies!!! :'(
OMGosh, Beth, these birds are fantastic looking!! Gorgeous!! I LOVE your Partridge roo!! So jealous!! We're just starting, and I'm going NUTS over my infertile eggs! LOL I want more silkies!! Besides, so far, we have nothing to contribute to our 4-H book so far on the hatching project. Sigh. Are your little beauties running free range on that wooded property? It looks like heaven over there!! I sure wish we had more trees out here. I'm working on it every year planting in more trees, but by virtue of living on the plains, things don't grow very fast here. Last year, I had to set up lots of shade cloth and water misters on everyone to keep them cool. I had hoses running everywhere. Anyway, I love your birds!!

My daughter showed a pair of White Silkies last year in 4H. How do you keep their feet clean? They are in a chicken tractor right now and I don't let them free range with the others but may combine them with our other chickens for most of the year. Building a chicken house right now and I have 22 Buff Orphs, black Austrolorpe, and Golden Polish chicks in the brooder.

Also, our Rooster has a little yellow on his puff because I accidentally gave him corn. I had no idea this would tinge him yellow but it just seems to be on his head. The other 3 silkies are fine. I heard that I can put liquid blueing in the water. Anyone do this?

Thanks!

I made little clear hatching baskets so I would have good visability and each color is separate. Hope everything works!
