Oh the trials of silkie addiction!Big Congrats PeepBlessed on your hatch!!! How exciting!!! Def post pics when they are fluffed!
Beth or anyone else that does AI-- okay, someone was telling me to keep my cockerel separate from my hens for a while before I do the AI. I didn't try yesterdy and haven't today yet. I had a broody silkie that was sitting on eggs for the last 2.5 weeks and I candled the eggs and they are not fertile. So I took them from her and put her outside with the others. I had him out there for a few minutes and he didn't try anything with anyone until I brought her out and then he went NUTS. Dragging his wings and shuffling and the works. She was a little weak from sitting so she started screaming, so I took him back out and put him in a pen by himself. The weak hen isn't being bothered by the others and she's sratching around and eating now and looking a lot better... Soooo... NOW that he is worked up and excited, this might be a good time to try, yes? I watched that video a few more times again. It just shows only like a drop or two coming out-- is that ALL?! Maybe I missed it last time?? Doubtful though, I really don't think it worked last time.
Most of my chicks haven't fluffed yet but thought I'd post a couple. This is a gorgeous splash chick from Catdance. I'm sure it's a girl! Too pretty to be a boy!![]()
And I had one egg in this bunch that was from my own girls. I don't know which one, but it's my first home raised silkie!I am very pleased so far!![]()
Don't you think it looks just like his Dad?
