Silkie thread!

So sorry! I don't show, but I can see why that could be so upsetting! Weird though because I've never had trouble breaking a broody hen before? I just take their eggs, and they get up and move on like it never happened...

She didn't even have any eggs! She just sat in the corner and plucked like crazy! I think I have her unsettled right now-- I stuck her in another pen with another bird and she is looking pretty lost and upset. So hopefully she won't try to pluck herself. Sheesh!!!! I wish it were that easy-- just taking away their eggs! LOL Also it was really cold outside with the storm front coming in and I had her out there in the cold wind. She doesn't look too broody right now. ;)

My girls will set on imaginary eggs for weeks on end! lol

LOL, never had that! Watch, now I will....

Hope she's done being broody!

I just got my white silkie cockerel in. He came from Mountaintop silkies in Maine. I can't wait to post pictures of him and see what you all think about him but hes still trying to get his energy up and settle in. I need to give him a bath before taking pictures because he has yellow vitamin water all over his chest and crest. I've seen him eat and he dumped his water over, hes just not very active. I'm hoping after a good nights rest he'll be fine. I plan on letting him outside for a little while tomorrow. I also think he's lonely but I'm getting him a couple white pullets this weekend.

He needs sugar in his vitamin water! Please give him sugar!! If he won't drink it, I will even syringe it (no needle) into their beak a bit and it perks them up. Mix up his whole water bottle with the electrolytes and then add a teaspoon or so of sugar into that. I even will syringe up yogurt and put that down their beak just tiny drop at a time. He needs some extra TLC or he could go down hill quickly! I have learned FIRST hand here on shipped birds.

ETA: OH and check his vent area and look for mites just in case. Give him a good dusting of Sevin Dust if you do see any bugs. :)

I gave him some sugar in his vitamin water in a syringe, it was hard to give it to him because he was flapping his wings and shaking his head so I guess that's a good sign. I was going to give him some yogurt but when I put him back in there he started eating so I'll probably give him some yogurt tomorrow. I didn't see any bugs on him but I put a little sevin dust on him just in case.

Good deal! The sugar will perk him up and make him feel like eating again-- all good!! The Sevin Dust won't hurt him in the least. :) Can't wait to see a picture of him! (tomorrow) after he settles in. I would NOT give him a bath for several more days until he has a chance to acclimate and feel a lot better.

Ya, I will post a picture of him tomorrow and I'm going to wait a few weeks before giving him a bath so that he can settle in.
Thanks!!!!
