Silkie thread!

These little guys are super cute Marty! OH, and I don't think I'd put Pinless Peepers on my broody... not sure it would stop her. But I do think I have her broke! I put her in a strange pen up high (they are stacked) and she was very concerned about her new digs and didn't pluck herself anymore. Today, she's outside in the cold front that is here and she's out kicking around on the ground having fun out there.

I didn't know if it would be worth a try or not. I've got one BO that still plucks, even with them on. I didn't know if silkies could see well enough to begin with for it to make a difference or not, lol. Sounds like you got it, though!

Partridge :)

Well, here's another question...............

According to the hatchery, they have black, white, blue, and buff silkies. These are the ones they send in the assorted silkies selection, but obviously, the ones I have aren't any of those. What's the parentage on partridge? Although, if they came in with the "feathered bantam selection" there is no specification on colors, and they came in the same batch as my sultans, so I guess it's possible they have some, but don't sell them............

I have Pinless Peepers on my Barred Rocks right now. They are pretty big-- they really do prevent forward vision. But my BR's are still able to get up on the roost and eat their food with them on. I really like them. I need to get them put on my SL Wyandottes, because they are now trying to pluck my Polish's tails. I have only TWO decent Polish that is show worthy (nice crests, good body, etc) and I NEED them to be ready (with their tails in tact) by August for the county show. I'm a bit stressed. (All my other Polish unfortunately have a lot of faults.) I'm kind of mad at my bigger girls for going after my Polish, but right now, I can't separate them, and there's nothing I can do except put the Pinless Peepers on. My silkies are in a temporary pen under my deck during the day (for shade) and I'm going to build them their own pen later this spring or summer... thinking about taking out the two Polish that are nice and throwing them in with the silkies.... Not sure how that would work out though.

Quote: I usually do quarantine my birds but this time I didn't have any other birds to put with him or any other place to put him with other birds because I knew that he was probably lonely. I hope they are healthy to and thanks for the compliments!

Camera, folding chair, a book (probably won't need it, but nice to have just in case). Water and snacks for you.

Cleaning touchup kit for the birds, (wash cloth, hair dryer, soapy water in a bottle, flea/tick spray, oil for combs/wattles, nail clippers, comb), coop cups and food for the birds, possibly bottles of water for them as well, blank silkie club show report to mark down placements, $$$ to buy birds, raffle tickets, etc., birds to sell, raffle items to donate, ...

HAVE FUN!

Okay, thanks!!!!

In my experience with ordering hatchery assortments/selections the colors you listed above for silkies is what they hatch out the most of there for they can sell them as a separate color in different amounts. There are some colors that they breed that don't produce enough to sell as a separate color so you are only able to get them in the hatchery assortment/Selection. So I am sure they are as pure bred as hatchery stock come you just got awesomely lucky to get as many as you did. Congrats!

My BRs are the most aggressive out of all my girls! They are fine with the others, but boy, nobody else better get in their way when they want to eat! Silly girls. The peepers really have helped them, even though they went right back to it when we took them off.

It's such a stressful behavior, and I'm not even showing anyone! I have one EE I'm trying to figure out if she's plucking her own chest or if it's someone else. She was the one that was the final straw because her butt was bald and got bloody. In a perfect world, we'd separate everyone out in a penalty box if they are being naughty! At least get the ones you are showing out, if you can. ...............

Thanks! Are partridges rare? I may have to call and find out for sure which hatchery they came from, just because I'm curious. I really had settled on the blues and whites, but at this point, I'm happy with whatever. 5 feathered toes, dark skin- yep, should be the right breed!
