Silkie thread!

I also have a terrible time understanding these things and I've been trying a long time. This chart will help with the Blue, Black Splash known as BBS

The way the Blue gene works in a breeding can be broken down as follows:
1) Blue x Blue: This will produce 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash.
2) Black x Blue: Produces 50% black and 50% blue.
3) Black x Splash: You'll get 100% blue.
4) Blue x Splash: Produces 50% blue and 50% splash.
5) Splash x Splash: This will give you 100% Splash.
Not listed is black to black. 100% black

White is best bred to white and buff to buff
Thanks for clarifying this....I feel like I think about this too hard and I get confused.

You know, I just have to say I think Silkie people are just about the nicest people in some of the forums. You are all so helpful and complimentary towards newbies and some not so new. I really appreciate that you take the time to respond to folks inquiries. I think it may have something to do with the breed we're drawn to - you know - sweet, gentle birds that just today I was thinking are like the lapdogs of the chicken world. I think Silkies attract sweet, gentle people. I could be wrong. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic because the sun is shining right now in the Northwest...

Lol, I too live in the NW, and we got rain, a down pour actually! I agree everyone here is so nice!!!! I too am a newbie, as soon as I learn how I will post pictures.

good idea, I set 5 gallon ice cream buckets in the freezer last night, I can try that with these....also froze some water bottles to lay around the hen house and coop, will turn the mister on around noon, hopefully all these will help, think I will also throw some fruit in the freezer to feed later today....
Frozen fruit is genius!

Hello. These are my sweetie pies.
Monroe...

and Bonnie & Clyde....
..

Bonnie is a blue partridge. I know someone said if I bred Clyde and Monroe I would have 100% blues. What about with Bonnie since she is a blue? They are both show quality and won with their previous owner. I'm new to all this and curious!

Hawkeye ~ The photo was upright when it was loaded into the forum but when loading finished it was sideways. The lady I purchased her from had tons of different kind of birds so it's possible she is a mix with any number of birds x Silkie. I just thought she was beautiful. Her coloring amazes me. I could look at her all day. Thank you for your input. I'm going to go look up Houdans now :)
