Silkie thread!

It's looking like I've had some late quitters since Thursday....I know that at least one of seven is alive. I haven't had any very late quitters till last hatch---I lost three (though I know it happens all the time, so I have to just accept it). But, my heart hurts.....

The only change was an auto-turner.....WELL, I'm going back to hand turning. I have about six more Silkies due for hatching next Friday, and I actually like turning them myself. Maybe I will get a few at least, if not just one. Praying...

Sorry this hatch seems to be going hard. I hope for good news.

My latest hatch! One Silkie and one Showgirl! This is my very first Showgirl chick, I'm doing the happy dance. This is my first showgirl after two groups of eggs. Even though this wasn't the greatest hatch only two out of seven eggs, very happy I got a showgirl, and a very pretty silkie!

Too cute... Makes me anxious to see how many showgirls i end up with in my hatch . Have 9 days to go....:D

Last week I purchased my very first chicken, a little Silkie we now call Vern (eventhough we don't know if it's a he or she lol)

My boyfriend was totally against me getting a chicken and pretty much thought it was a stupid idea to have one as a pet. After almost a week, poor little Vern was pretty lonely and wanted held ALL DAY (which I didn't mind a bit!). This, however, was an excellent excuse to talk Boyfriend into getting Vern a playmate :0) During the week we have had him, he must have made a really good impression because I was able to buy two more instead of one!

We just got them yesterday, but I am in love already! They are so lovable! I'm so excited about our new additions and can't wait until they get older!
Awwww! These are real cuties!!! Welcome to the silkie thread! :)

Great and creative idea!! Never would've thought of that, but now I have to buy some...oh, I'll send my son

Not hatching on day 19, just going into lock down. They usually hatch on time, one may be a few hours early or late.

Thank you Basel....do you, or anyone, know if on day 18 a lot of fluid can still be seen upon candling? There are a few more that I can see veins and a little movement....but it still looks like they need another week to grow---unlike the other bantams I've hatched at this stage. The air cells in these were pretty shot, but the membrane has tightened that up....lots of air cell seen, too.
Are silkies that much different in growth/incubating/hatching than other breeds, or is this just typical for badly packaged/shipped eggs?
Someone please help....

Don't risk tossing them. Just wait it out. Some chicks take a couple of days longer to hatch so there might be more room at this age.
