Silkie thread!

Amazing chick!! Just gorgeous!! May I ask how you know it's girl?
Yes, gorgeous white silkie!

Ditto-I'm wondering too how you know at 8 weeks, it is a pullet.

You know what they say about the higher the quality (silkie), the longer they take to sex.

I'm hoping it's a hen too. You just want to carry them around and cuddle them when they are that pretty....at least I do. That's why I have chicken diapers.

I've been mostly lurking since I got my 3 week old Silkies 3 weeks ago. I have 6 of them, here are two. Oh and these are hatchery babies from Ideal so please don't tell me they're ugly

Don't mind the baby hand, he's 21 months and he adores the chickens. I try to keep them away from the babies until they have all of their feathers but he's relentless. One of my blue babies:

One of my white babies, this one has two toes on each foot fused together but s/he gets around just fine so we're leaving them alone:

We have 2 whites, 2 blacks, and 2 blues out there along with 11 other babies (Polish, Houdans, Frizzles, a Barred Rock, a Sultan, D'Uccles).

That little hand reaching out to touch the chick is just so cute! Your chicks are sweet! Tina G.

Spent most of the day yesterday hanging out with my silkies! I have all ages in one pen. 3 hens, 1 rooster as well as 5 juveniles, and 7 'kids' silkies.
So here are my adults:

Lorraine #2

The molting Pearl #3 - notice how big the cochin x barred rock is in comparison - and the baby is only 10 weeks old.

Daddy Steve
I'm numbering the babies as who belongs to which hen. All but 2 are fathered by Steve. The 2 that aren't fathered by Steve are fathered by George:

This one was mothered by a polish but the silkies are raising him/her

and this is why keep-away is a dangerous sport to play:

Are you just numbering or punching toes? I not sure I would know how to do punching toes.

That ok my daddy has two toes (froze toes in Korea) took him 8 years to be able to walk without corrective shoes on. It will happen just give twinkles toes time to learn

I would hope so. Otherwise I will have to tell my chickens that they are not acting normal!

I had that issue too. Then I just threw the quartered melon in the pen. They knew instinctively what that was. Guess they just dont see cubed watermelon as what it is. They just like things simple. They rather have us just throw it on the ground. Let it get dirty. Thats why I love chickens. They love to make my job easier. lol

Oh my - absolutely beautiful! I have 2 silkies and I wish they looked even half as great as yours do. Wow!

I thought I had written this in reply to one of the above posters - but I guess not. :(

Thank you very much! My favourite is definitely my blue partridge Phyllis.
Flora Mae I just picked up yesterday. She's broody and I paid $5 for her lol. I gave her a bubble bath and a nice blow dry. She is also the mother to Lorraine.
Is she still broody after a day at the spa? Usually that will knock em off the broody nest.
