Silkie thread!

I took some pics today of some of the adults. It was hard to get some of them not panting.

This one is three years old and I hatched her from one of Bobbi Porto's eggs


The buff is one year old and was hatched from one of Sundown Silkie's eggs.

Those are just awesome looking birds! Great photos too!!

I have candled other breeds and know what I am looking for, this is just my first experience with silkies and wanted to make sure nothing was different... it sounds kinds stupid now

I guess I am just grasping at straws...

The thickness and texture of the shell can make early candling difficult so don't make a early decision to toss them. I once pulled 6 eggs at 5 days because I thought they were infertile. A few days later I broke them to feed them to the dogs and they had all been growing. I was just sick about it but it was a huge lesson for me.

Can I get some tips on my boy here.

Pretty sure it's a boy. Streamers are starting.

He is 10 weeks old

10 weeks is young for streamers but I see what you mean on that last photo. Really awesome looking chick! I hope it develops more leg and foot feathering. That's the only weak thing I see.

He has a twisted foot, so he's going to be rehomed, but besides that I think he looks really nice. I have some that have much better foot feathering for sure

I mean this one is 3 1/2 weeks younger and it has much better foot feathering! Though it has lighter skin than I'd like.. SIgh...

Oh and I forgot about my 'special' chick. He's called a frilkie - because he has frizzled silkie feathers.

Never saw it before. He's really different!

This is his sister (with my fiance) The comb is much more detailed on the boy if you peel back his fluff. The fluff really covers it for the most part.

She is also 10 weeks old.

This is one of my younger ones. Very cute <3

This is my favourite - her wing is dropped because everyone was panting. It almost hit 40 that day or 104F.. I kept spraying down the run every couple of hours.

Yeah, it's really tough to get everything right but that's what keeps us going!!
