The second one on it's way and plenty more scratching and piping.

I'm thinking this is a Splash? It was a B/S egg...a little light for a blue, right? I'll get more pictures tomorrow morning when it's fluffier.

And here comes the second one. I was so excited with the first check that I forgot to check on the color of this one. lol I'm pretty sure it was either the black or another B/S.

first one is a splash. :) hope that second egg has enough humidity-- is it under a broody or in an incubator? I don't touch them, they dry out fast.

Did you order black? Most breeders won't send black with BBS eggs unless they have a black pen that you specifically ask for eggs from.

How exciting!! Are you using an Incubator?

I would suggest that new birds be bathed in a flea and tick shampoo as soon as possible. Lice or mites are extremely hard to see with the naked eye, but will come out of hiding when bathed with medicated shampoo or sprayed with something like Poultry Protector. In fact, during bathing the little creepy crawlies may even try to escape onto your hands. If the birds were bathed by the prior owner in regular shampoo, it wouldnt have killed or eradicated any bugs. The last thing anyone wants to do is inadvertently introduce harmful pests into an otherwise healthy flock. And following a 4 week quarantine would be wise.
If you want to ensure they relax and adapt to their new environment, it would help to apply a drop or two of VetRx (for poultry) on their nostrils before bathing. You can continue to apply VetRx daily. Putting a drop under the wings is also a good idea.

Hi All,

I have a question. I have three Silkie babies (they are one week and two weeks old) and will be bringing in four Silkie babies from another breeder (they are a few days to a week old). I was going to keep them apart but should I bathe the new Silkie babies?

I will also be getting six Serama's from the breeder of the three Silkie babies. I was planning on keeping them apart but do I need to if they were hatched at the same location as the first three Silkies? Should I bathe them?

Thank you!!

Sheila :)

Wow, really beautiful!!! I am getting two Splash chicks, this week, and hope they turn out as lovely. How old are they?
Sheila :)

I forgot to latch my blue and splash pen's door and so when I was cleaning it out they escaped. I let them free range while I was cleaning there coop out since I was there to watch them. I only took pictures of my two new splash girls because my blues do not look good at all. One of them just got out of being broody and has a bad brown tint to her feathers? Someone mentioned what it was called on here but I forgot, something to do with the sun? My other blue girl doesn't look as good as I would like, but shes still filling in.My blue rooster got attacked by another rooster(who I don't have anymore) and is still getting his crest feathers in. My paint pen is still a work in progress, I'm keeping all my good paint pullets(4-5) and then getting a cockerel for them in the fall. My white pen is a work in progress, I'm only keeping my white cockerel from that pen and selling the two white pullets that are in with him in the fall because they have too many hard feathers in their tails. I'm getting three good white pullets in the fall for him. Right now my blue/splash pen is the best out of the three.
Of course my splash pullet who always poses wouldn't pose when I tried to take her picture :/. They both have nice type though.

Please excuse the droopy wings, its hot out. Also she has poo/shavings stuck on the left side of her crest, that's why one side is good and one side is not.

Quote: Check them over very thoroughly when they arrive, and keep separate from your current birds for at least a couple of weeks. Ask the breeder about what if any treatments have been given. Bathing and treating for mites/lice is fairly common, at least among some breeders, but with babies that are only a couple of weeks old, not likely unless there was an issue. I mix breeds together so long as age and/or size are similar. Right now I have one pen with two ducklings, a young silkie cockerel and a mature fancy pigeon.

My eggs were under two broody hens. Hopefully I didn't do any damage to that one egg I took a picture of.

I just ordered assorted colors and got one black egg. Most of them were marked B/S and got lots of white also. One random buff, black and a porcelain. There were the two lavender eggs, two paints and two partridge, I think. As soon as I'm done with my breakfast I'm running outside to see how many chicks hatched over night!
This is probably what I'll look like running to the barn. hahaha
