Silkie thread!

How often do you set eggs usually? I'm contemplating doing a staggered hatch since I have two incubators. In theory it sounds good but sorta scary too lol

Teresaann24 what is the base to your enclosure on the first picture? It looks interesting I'm racking my brains trying to think of what it is!

Its one of those plastic summer tables. I needed a safe place to put my youngsters so I flipped it over using the underside of the top as a bottom to keep things from digging in and wrapped wire around the sides and top. Works wonders!

What age can you start picking out wing problems like split wing on silkies?

I started to notice problems as early as 3 and a half months. But I ALWAYS wait until the bird in question is totally feathered out and more matured than that before I make the final call. I've had some youngin's with wings that feathered up oddly but after a few weeks, they began to look normal.

I have such a BAD case of "can't-wait-for-the-silkies-to-hatch"! The more I read this thread and the more I read about this breed, the more I want them. I confess, though, that usually I am after a chicken for its ability to give me eggs. Silkies are just sweet & they can be utilized for hatching! We don't have a rooster yet, but I definitely want a silkie roo. ::sigh:: We are only 5 days away from silkies in the house (have 7 eggs in the bator, hoping for 4 or more to hatch).
