Silkie thread!

We're trying our hand with Silkies and have had a blast. Getting ready for our first winter and have been getting conflicting answers as to just how winter tolerant these little guys will be. We live in North Dakota. How do you guys' Silkies do in the elements?

You know I am just as bad...I have to stop wishing my chicks to grow up fast and just enjoy their little selfs but...it's hard

You had asked me a few pages back I think.

ChickyBangBang ~ do come back and let us see these purebred silkies in 21 days!!! Make sure you join a hatching thread on here because it's so much fun to do it with a group

Brookhavens started another hatching thread and ChickyBangBang has joined us over there. She received her eggs this morning and I ordered and received another batch of Catdance eggs this morning, so there are several of us that will have the same due date. You should stop in and cheer us on, that is unless you want to join us again! Ha! Ha!

I can just see that picture in my mind!
It really is the funniest thing. I go out on Saturday and Sunday (before church), sit on the beast buggy and just watch them. Bruce puffs up, stretches and lets out this near perfect crow. Then the silkies set up in their stance and let loose one of the wildest croaks. It sounds like it has to hurt their throats. They literally look like they have this 'what the heck?' look on their faces.

Bruce and the hens stop what they are doing and just stare. They don't give up though. They have their contests but they know Bruce is the man.

The skunks are trying to burrow under my chicken pen where I have my silkies, I have filled in two holes in the last week!!! Scared for them and wondering if anyoe has any ideas or has ever had this problem?

Within hours of finding the first chickens killed, I had this ordered. It arrived in a couple of days, two raccoons and two opossum in one week.

I do recognize that getting rid of a trapped skunk will be unpleasant, but better than finding your birds dead.
