I really have to find out what is up with the date.

It's always been like that. No, the bird in my avatar is blue hen and Crixus is a black rooster. Sometimes I have to physically get closer to see who is who though. That's the problem with similar-colored birds.

I sold my first two chicks today. Prima my six toenail almost six toed pullet and Mr. Meanie a lavender ameraucana bantam cockerel. I'm kinda sad but they went to a great home with a little girl who loved them at first sight! I think I'm going to be even sadder when I go outside tomorrow morning and Prima isn't there to greet me

CarolinaChickenKeeper Is that a baby superyard octagon gate? I have one that I use all the time with the chicks!

Yep!! That's my chicken fence (a baby play yard). It's placed in a U shape around my coop. Works pretty well too. I'm working my way up to letting the free range. The mother in me is just not ready for that

Also, my silkie hen finally went broody. Yaaaaa!!! I think she's on like 18 eggs.

I'v used baby gates too to make a run type thing...LOL It's fun with what you can use...I even use plastic tables turned upside down to make safe places for babies or a place to keep new birds to be safely away from my flock till 30 days.

Quik question from a silky newbee... How old are silkys when they finally start to lay???

I have a 9 month old Silky pullet/hen, who has yet to lay a single egg. Is it normal for them to wait so long before laying the first egg?

Have any of you had an aggressive silkie rooster? I had one and all of a sudden he turned really mean. Even though he was super cute we sold him to a feed store.
