A friend of mine hatched out some of the first silkie eggs from me. She lost a lot to a predator, but Chippie remains. He is handsome.. I'm going to have to go steal him for Phyllis

I would not say that is a girl yet![]()
If it wasn't for that beak, I would say sure it's a girl. But I have never had a girl with a male beak.. Just boys with girl beaks. You might not but I am.Positive thinking!!! Her two brothers already have distinctive combs and have the Elvis do's happening already. Hope I don't have to eat crow!!! I only have one that I can't really tell - one day I say she and the next I say he. I have a 92% correct sexing rate so here's to hoping I'm right.
The lavender in the second picture right behind her is a good comparison. I wish he was a girl but that isn't happening this time.
I have rarely had a male show a male crest until later in their teens.I've had them both ways, girls with boy beaks and boys with girl beaks so I personally don't take a lot of stock in the beaks. My pictures aren't the best either, I can take a shot of a beak and it looks just like an eagle, but at another angle not at all. It works the same way with crests for me. There is definitely a knack to chicken picture taking.![]()
