Silkie thread!

Colie <3 :

Teresaann24 anything going on in the Kentucky area next month or in May? I'm planning a trip home hoping to find a show or something when I go. Thinking I could drive to Indiana, Ohio or Tennessee if I can find something worth the drive. Maybe even W. Virginia I don't think that's too far away from central KY.

I'v been trying to find out some stuff...I heard there may be some kind of swap type thing around the border of ky/ohio no for sure on that since I have not been able to find any information on it. I will look around and let you know.

Thanks guys for the Partridge pics.. they Look pretty much like what my chicks came out of.. sooo.. with luck.. they will be nice.. Thank you.

I saw some info on something that happens in Frankfort I'm not sure what it was now. I also saw something else in central KY but grr don't remember what it was either or what time of year it happens. lol
It just dawned on me today that while I'm there I should try and go to something chicken related since not a whole lot happens around me. Working with someone to organize a swap or something around southern new mexico/west texas but we haven't gotten very far in the planning yet. Hard to figure how to even get started with the whole thing...

Here is one of my partridge roosters.

Hi everyone, I would just like for some more knowledgeable silkie people to tell me how ugly and hopeless this poor little roo is. He is an oops I ended up with at a recent poultry swap. I was buying chicks of another breed from a lady, and the guy one stall up across the way had some nice buff silkies. My nine year old daughter talked to him, and came back excitedly telling me he had a buff roo. I expected it to be one the pretty juveniles I could see. I gave in to my daughters impatience and gave her the cash for the roo, and she came back with this thing. Talk about bait and switch, but I was foolish, so I sucked it up and didn't go demand my money back. Lesson learned. So now what do I do with him? I wanted to breed him to my lonely broody buff silkie, but she is soooo much nicer than he is. I have no love or delusions, so don't worry about my feelings, I don't even think he is pure bred honestly. What do you all think? I see terrible color for a buff, white ear lobes, a messed up comb, and I don't know if those leg feathers will improve with tlc or not. Thanks everyone.

Pretty roo!

I just picked up 4 bearded silkie babies today! They will be 5 weeks old on Monday and were hatched on Valentines Day! 2 are white and 2 are partridge (they are a brown and blue color). They are so cute! The eggs came from a breeder in Washington state but I can't remember who she mentioned. I'm waiting for her to email me the name. My son and daughter each wanted to have one and the birds seemed to choose them. My daughter named hers Valentine (I wanted Valentina but can't argue with a 6 year old). Valentine cuddled on her lap and even started trilling. The other white one we're naming Bianca.

The 2 partridge are Teddy Bear (Teddy) and Coco Bean (Coco)... I asked my son (he's 2-1/2) if he wanted his to be Teddy or Coco and he chose Coco. It was cute watching Coco cuddle on his lap. He was very gentle with her, and she seemed content. The other 2 were a little more nervous.

I'm hoping they are all females, but we shall see. She had 3 other white ones... one had a curled toe problem and the other 2 looked roo-ish to me (who knows). I chose the smallest 4 of the bunch but one of my white ones is a little bigger and standing a little taller than the others... outside of that their poofs all look the same, no tail feathers... feathers on the breasts.

They are a little dirty - are they too young to clean them up? Bless my hubby for being so great and going along with my chicken addiction - but her hubby trumps him - she had 4 tubs on her dining room table in her kitchen full of babies and a big dog kennel with the silkies sitting on a counter. I kidded my husband that my next goal is to start incubating eggs haha!

I'll try and take some photos tomorrow to share.
