i dont c how it could hurt just dont cut down to the shafts of the feathersHi,
I have a new beautiful Silkie roo and chick that have full beards and crests and can't see much. I don't plan on showing. Is there anything about trimming feathers around their eyes I should know? Is it okay to do?
Thanks!
Janna
Mine do this as well. Silly things!
hmmmm....probably make an isolacted pen and put a couple of hens in there and a little pile of golf balls in there or if u can get an biddies pick a cage of em next to the cage that should make want some babies good luck!! once them silkies find out how to do it they wont stop!!!!!
I use blunt baby nail scissors. The cheek feathers (muffs) are usually the problem. Hold them up to eye level and trim everything that keeps you from seeing their eyes.Hi,

So cute it makes my heart swell!
Im too far away but I think you will be happy with silkies for your Daughter. I just sent off 4 of my silkies to 4-H girls and their younger sister ( 3) They had bought 2 of my Silkies earlier and loved them. Most of them are pretty docile and if they have been handled a bit should be easy for a child. I think part of it is that they are easier to pick up.. I dont think they see you coming lol! and most dont flap around as much as some other more skittish chickens do. Their size is good as well, not tiny but not too big to carry around. That along with being just so darn cute make them perfectI don't know much about silkies but my daughter is in 4-H and she is 6 and a half and small for her age. I was told silkies are calm bird and would be good for her size to show in the fair. I would like to find someone close that may have some that I could look at and see how they are. I live in Williford Arkansas. I would like to see them before I get any.
well standard for a bantam yes, but each bird is different and some may be heavier than others. They will not be large, about half the size of a regular standard chicken.I have seven white silkie bantam chicks that are a little over two months old, (born september 17th) and I was wondering if they are going to be standard size?
Thanks!
