s,Tell me about it! I was forced to do Cleo's feet by myself, not easy! Especially on such a wiggly fayoumi!
Can happen with any breed. Sometimes it's genetic, but usually nutritional or problems during incubation. Silkies can be touchy. Yes they would be crippled if left unattended and many die if not fixed.Hey gu
s,
Hi guys,
Is this procedure for cosmetic reasons only or will the chicken be crippled if their toes are left curled?? Is it a genetic fault with silkies in general or just one of their quirky traits?? Just curious as to the reason for same!

LOL What did you think about the rooster impersonation? Classic yes?I just watched that chicken documentary you guys recommended and O.O wow. Great movie. That lady with her lovely white roo made me want to get some "panties" for a couple of my girls. No swimming though LOL x.x
I first tried with some tape and a little cardboard piece but that was too slippery. That's why I switched to band-aids, they had more texture to them. Make sure it's not one of the slippery kind if you do go with band-aid. Otherwise they'll keep doing splits. lol I also put a towel in my brooder, so the chick could get a better grip with his/her band-aid booties.Ok, well, I was afraid to get the sticky part of the band-aid on the toes, but perhaps that is what I was supposed to do. plus it is slippery and he's slipping all over the place, poor thing. I'm afraid I may have to do his legs next if this keeps up.
I"ll do the tape in the morning again. it seems to be a two person job.
Wasn't it hysterical?I just watched that chicken documentary you guys recommended and O.O wow. Great movie. That lady with her lovely white roo made me want to get some "panties" for a couple of my girls. No swimming though LOL x.x
The rooster guy had those crows down pretty good. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.LOL What did you think about the rooster impersonation? Classic yes?
The story about Liza who saved her chicks always gives me goosebumps![]()
OK, I changed it to wound tape.I first tried with some tape and a little cardboard piece but that was too slippery. That's why I switched to band-aids, they had more texture to them. Make sure it's not one of the slippery kind if you do go with band-aid. Otherwise they'll keep doing splits. lol I also put a towel in my brooder, so the chick could get a better grip with his/her band-aid booties. That worked out well.![]()
It is tough doing it by yourself, but practice makes perfect! If I got it done, you can do it also!![]()
