I use sand in my coop and I Love it, easy to clean doesn't smell.

Sorry for your loss but dose anybody know or even have a picture of a silkie foot i have one for sure roo but one of my thought to be hens looks like she is getting spurs here is a pic of her she is 22 weeks old any ideas

That is a hot topic lately...I am increasing the sand in my run. I have tried different stuff and sand seems to work the best for me and my chicks. we have sand naturally all around us here in the high desert. i can get it for free from the many washes nearby.

Haha the sand in my run is mud! LOL! That's why my precious pampered silkies stay off the ground in nice dry shavings.

How do you keep the shavings dry if the sand turns to mud? With monsoon season upon us it downpours almost daily.
