These babies are Adorable!!! I want to guess that the first and third chicks are Roos based on their stance:)
Those ARE some awfully cute chicks, but that is what several people said about my 2 white chicks, myself included, and the one turned out to be a pullet (lost the other one at a week old.) She does have the best confirmation in the group, so I guess that stance produces the best type

Do you pluck them out with tweezers or something? Or cut them? I can see how you would want to make sure their eyes are clear. I have been just finger grooming mine.

I'm wondering the same thing about plucking. A little girl that I show- I read that they can only be plucked for showing. She seems able to see. The standard says that they have to be able to see, but the winners at the shows that I've seen are little puff heads :) So is my girl. She goes to a show Feb 1st, but I'm not going to try until after that, so I don't mess her up. Doesn't it hurt when they are plucked? I want to do it as painless as possible. -Pam
I had to cut this little black one- she was picked on by everyone. Someone suggested maybe she couldn't see well, and the others were being mean to her because of her weakness.

Very nice............

They are the oldest. Also the boldest. They are hardly ever under thier mother and are already playing and being ornery. They love to pull on her beard. The littler ones stay under momma a lot. The littlest had some pasty butt tonight. I have been putting poly vi sol and ACV in the water, so I hope that keeps them healthy. They will be a week old tomorrow. They were all born last Saturday except for the last one that hatched 2 days later. They are smaller than our last hatch. My white hens are pretty tiny, so I think they will be too.

My white pullet has the most beautiful crest but it was hiding her eyes. All she did was sit around and I was worried she was sick. I finally decided to trim (with scissors) her crest so her eyes show and now she runs and jumps and looks so happy!

What can you tell about a silkies future conformation and quality based on week old babies? Just curious. I don't figure you can tell much, but these chicks seem to have come out pretty nice. I had a couple in my last hatch like them, and then I had a few that looked a lot different. Any opinions on the little ones? I think they will feather out white. They seem to be silver based and gold based. Their moms are white and dad is blue.

They are not pure silkie. Two silkies bred together will always produce silkie feathered offspring, so they were mixed with something with regular feathers along the way. This doesn't make them any less lovable, I've had several silkie mixes along the way that have been great pets. I have 2 eggs from this half silkie/half oegb pullet under one of my broody hens right now. She was bred by a pure silkie, so I expect her offspring to have even more silkie traits.
I would love to have a few "normal feathered" silkies. You know smooth sizzles.

I just hatched out a couple of cochin/silkies on NYD. Now I am even more curious how they will look. Very Pretty.
