Silkie thread!

Quote: The only shows I've been at that ended that early were fairly small; I've been at ones where they were judging up until they closed the show hall so that folks would head to the 6pm banquet! BUT, if you don;t arrive until 2, chances are that much if not most of it will be over or winding down. You need to look at the schedule for that particular show; call the show secretary to ask your questions. You might want to consider going early, before your kids' sports.

Leaving before coop-out time except in an emergency is a BIG no-no! Putting on a show is hard work, and asking to leave before the posted coop-out for anything that is foreseeable (sports, theatre tickets, beating the traffic, get home before dark, etc.) is just plain rude. Now unanticipated things such as a medical emergency or extreme weather are another matter, and most show personnel will allow those as reasonable reasons for cooping out early.

As for buffs I ended up with a flock of all buffs this year. I bought some new silkies and they happened to all be buffs! That was the babies that two different breeders had availble at the time I was buying. It's funny because I didn't set out to get only buffs but that was all that was available to Me At The time. So all my youngsters are buff this year.

Yeah- I said sometimes I want to, but I always stay. I used to put on shows (not chickens) and it it hard work. Getting judges, ribbons, working out the classes, securing a show call, etc. I always appreciate that! The only time I wanted to go was during a bad "ladies days". TMI
