It happens. I had one get caught up in mums under feathers and by the time I realized it was missing she was dragging it around , dead , behind her. Poor little thing had been strangled. Some Broodie's do a good job of de- feathering their own under carriage.
I sure hope it doesn't happen while I'm not here. Silkie has now hatched 6 and the last one one the way. Some are hers and some are Peachies as they shared eggs....Thanks for replying...Good luck with your wonderful selection of animals....:)

Hello!

I just hatched out some silkies (and silkie/frizzle mixes) a few days ago. They are absolutely adorable, and I would like to get some guesses on colors (just have to upload the pics later).

Here is a pic of a few of the parents. Two white males (one with a trace amount of black in his tail) and one Red male over two white females, two partridge, one that is blue or gray (not sure on this girl (pictured below).. opinions?), and one frizzle.

Please ignore that they are dirty... they do enjoy digging in the mud when it rains.

They're beautiful! I have 2 the same color as your top right picture! Do you consider them "red"? I've often wonder what they're color was considered.

Here's our roo, Cheddar.

and one of our hens, Lucy.

21 babies out of 26 that went into lock down!! Woot! The best silkie hatch I've had in a long time. Now, for my other hatch, that I'm really excited about. Due to hatch in 2 days, but if they go early like these did, I could have some tomorrow. Paints with full beards. All of her chicks have the real full beards. Soo hoping that hatch goes well!
Will get photos of the "bunch" when they are all getting up and around better. A lot of paddle walk going on. So cute. Blacks, blues, and I think some of the blues are splash.

I had 4 Silkie chicks, 2 are falling to thrive. They have a momma, One passed during the night, the other can not keep up, I put her in a brooder box. Any suggestions on what I can do to help her if she can be helped. She is smaller and lighter then her siblings. She is on her 5th day.

Update: the little one died, minutes ago. It's gullet was empty. No food, I do not believe it ever eat, she was so thin. So sad. Two silkies, 2 are robust, 2 just week to start. Any comments that will help me in the future. I had a broody and introduced 4 silkies while eggs were hatching. Next time I will not have a broody to take care of them. I will have to use a brooder box.

I have little experience with Silkie chicks. I know some breeds are not as strong as chicks. I am in the process of packing and moving, have to be out by the end of May. I had a girl go broody, she has had to do it all alone... The way she likes it.
