Silkie thread!

Well TC by your theory that one white one and the silver partridge look to be roos (oops, I guess I was a day late getting that info). My other 3 big ones appear to be hens, and the 4 itty bitties I didn't want to dig out of the RI chicks because I was hungry, lol

Ok everyone I have my small flock of silkies with my showgirl roo (15) and every eight weeks my hens go broody, and once one does its a matter of days before they all do! I've never had luck breaking them of broody, wire mesh cage or even cooling with ice. Does anyone else have the same broody mania? I don't mind so much except its so hard to part with the babies when they grow up! And find good homes for the cockerels. Anyone have any tricks to stop the brooding?

And here is a pic of a cockerel I decided to keep from my valentines hatch. Much to the dismay of my top roo! This baby is already trying to mount the hens!

Hormones aren't something I mess with. Just collect the eggs daily , that way you don't have to worry about re homing the chicks. Make sure the water and food are nearby and wait it out.

I tried the waiting game and after 9 weeks I finally broke down and gave my one hen eggs. They all have individual feeders and water in their nest boxes because I'm concerned about them wasting away. After the 9 week episode I let them have eggs now! They do make beautiful babies but geez, it's all the time over here.

I do sell pullets but I've never shipped birds. So it's always been local buyers. I'll have to get some pics of the kids. There is one pullet that I've got a major crush on, she has the biggest crest of all and knows it. She thinks she's the queen and was born 3/17/14! Cutest powderpuff. <3 I'll try to get some good shots this weekend to share.
