Silkie thread!

Hello all!!! First batch of silkies due to hatch on the 23rd!!!! I am soooo excited!! They are from Geri godina and have eggs comming from Bobbi Porto the week of the 28 th!! Am hatching blue black splash white porcelain and lavender!!!!!!

What is best food for my silkies. They are currently 14 weeks old ,6weeks & 4 weeks. (14 week olds are seperate for now) I was wondering if they need something special to keep feathers looking nice etc. are crumbles better than pellets for them? Can they have BOSS?

Ok I need help now have been indoors for last couple of days because I had wisdom teeth removed and brother isn't very good at checking on chickens . I went out to check some of them a little bit ago and one of my silkies eyes was puffy and squeezed shut . She can open it if she wants but it is swollen is there anything I can do ? Or does she just have something in it? She also has white things in her beard thought they might be chicken mite eggs but there are no nights on her or on any of the other chickens

The white stuff looks like she has been rubbing mucous /puss from her eye. Some Terramycin eye ointment will help with the eye but if she has other symptoms , upper respiratory , then you will need to give her a course of oral antibiotics. If she has lice or mites they can get in o the eye and cause irritation. Chickens also get eye worm.

I feed mine medicated chick starter for the first 6 weeks. There is a purina product that @subhanalah uses , flock raiser that is also safe to feed to Roos. It's important not to feed young birds excess calcium as it leaves deposits on the bone and in the kidneys.
My 2 week olds had their first cooked rice with egg and sardines yesterday , they ran all over me trying to get at it. To say they liked it would be an understatement . I give mine a micro pellet it's 1/4 the size of your average pellet.
