Silkie thread!

Careful Eddy doesn't always bob his head... I love this little guy. Any guesses on sex? I thinking if I call him a him, it may be a girl after all. Of the 7 teenagers I got from Bobbi, 5 are crowing :barnie

Aww Eddy's so cute, I hope he out grows it.

Thanks. I do love him the most! He's named after my grandpa. I would always watch him working in the wood shop, and he would make me laugh cause he would talk to himself, but when he would make a mistake or drop something he would always say " ooh! Careful Eddy!" Every time! It was always a saying my family would repeat when remembering him.

I'm sorry idk the answer to the vitamin question but am very curios about the answer. I have a 10 week old silkie who does this same thing . I noticed it around week old & just as you said it hadn't gotten any worse . I did get some advice on adding vitamins to water & have been doing so for weeks now . I almost think it seems to have improved a lil but or mayb I just wanna think that . How old is Eddy? Sorry about your baby ..I worry about my sweet silkie & what the future may hold

Interesting. At least I know there is someone else out there who has seen it. CE was born on me and my husbands 4th anniversary, July 17th. I'm hoping he will grow out of it eventually.

I would just give them their last vit water before you go and ask mum to top up their water while you are gone. I would hold back on the 5 gallon waterer , it's too risky with the 7 week olds. The nipple waterer's are much safer, less chance of drowning.

Ok, so I won't give the big water, good point. But are you saying to give vit water Friday, but empty it and give only fresh before I leave? Or to give a full vit water and have mom refill it with fresh when needed? Does this stuff go bad or something? Why does it say to make fresh daily?

How old were your little ones before they started crowing? Also what is causing your chicks head twitch?

Blipit007 love the story of the name . Aww born on your anniversary makes him/her even more special . Yea I'm sorry that eddy has it but very glad kno Someone who has seen the same thing. My lil ones names is Thomas my 2 yo named it after the cartoon Thomas the train & it's sibling is Toby ...so far all the ones she has given boy names are girls sooo holding out hope for Thomas & Toby lol. That's good question about the water being changed daily . I just put up a 1 gallon waterer myself but w/ 2 silkies 10 weeks & 2 7 week old Cochins it certainly isn't gone overnight & I've noticed the vitamin water is yellow in color the first day then seems have no color next day . Good luck w/ everything .

Just give them their last dose and get mum to top up as required. Water soluable vits have a short shelf life and unless you mix them fresh each day there is no guarantee that they will be of any benefit.

One of my friend's black Silkie male single combed 1 year old have white ear lobes. Is it fine to have a white ear lobed Silkie? :-/ bcz as far as I know the Silkies hace blue ear lobes. And second thing is, his male's foot feathering is not like Silkies usually have like hairy/Silkie/soft type hairs on their foot. But it has normal feathers like large fowls (buff cochins and brahmas). im in a doubt that if it is pure or not. Kindly help me with this. Thanks

You would need to post pics , the blue lobes do fade to white in older birds. It's not unusual to see the occasional ' hard ' feather in heavily feathered feet.

Let's see... they were born on May 6th, & I would say the first one started to crow about 2 weeks ago. Since there are 5 down there, they all taught each other how I suppose LOL. Beans started, then Chaos, then Pickles, once Pickles did it, Beans stopped, and I only heard Chaos do it once or twice since Pickles started. Then about 4 days ago Tuna started up... Its only a mater of time till Nacho gets going. I posted photos of Nacho, hoping people here would say, "No worries Kristen, Nacho is definitely a girl..." nope. All guesses go to boy. I heard Capone (the 7 week old) give it a go yesterday morning when I was down there really early with my coffee, good grief! It was really pathetic though and if I wasn't standing there, I wouldn't have known what it was. They only crow at 6:50 AM when the sun peaks here. Ironically that is exactly when we get up since my husband needs to leave for work by 7:10. Strange... Then I don't hear them again. As far as the head bobbing, we don't know. That was the reason I posted all the videos here, to get some help from others who may have seen it and know how to treat it.

Lets keep in touch and hopefully we can help each other out with this. And hopefully someone here will help us figure it out.

Oh ok, so it wont go bad, just looses potency. Thank you.

Neat story how Eddy got his name.

Grandpa was the coolest. I named my other favorite, the smooth splash Lilly, after my Grandma. Those two bickered like cats and dogs, but loved each other so much.

Here's Lilly at almost 6 weeks old
