Ok thanks how often do they go broody, and how many can they sit on, to receive a good hatch rate(making sure they all get warm etc)

Yes they are notorious for their broodiness. I let my silkies hatch out all of my larger breeds chicks. Keeps them busy and they are great mommas. Mine will hatch a dozen LF eggs with ease.

It will probably be just a mixed color of buff and black/splash.

I got them together, not too bad through plastic.

What's the little suction thing for?

It's just an aquarium thermometer and the new chicks knocked it over so it looks like it is stuck to an egg but it's not. I could have taken that part off but I just tossed it there so I could drive myself crazy with several different temps.

My little silkie cross hatched 14 of her own eggs. But I would say 10-12 comfortably.
