Silkie thread!

Is there anybody here with Red Silkies? In the Northern California area? I'm looking to use them in a LF sex-linked Silkie project I want to start this spring, but I can't seem to find Reds anywhere. I'd be thrilled to find older pullets/hens but young straight run is fine too.

@Jeansrie one of my favorite girls is blossoming into... a beautiful boy

Probably going to do a test mating with him over my little Marauder girl.

I ended up with so many boys I had to re-home a couple of them that I was not going to breed from. At this point I am hoping I have at least 2 girls out of the 11.

@silkiecuddles Thank you. I am definitely going to keep him. He is such a sweetie.. great temperament. He's really small and so adorable. Nice crow too... not too loud and obnoxious like some others lol.

I named him jasper once his streamers started coming in. He's still only about 4 months old I think. I'm thinking he's going to be really pretty when he's matured.

Thankies!

I need to put him over some blue girls to get the darker splashes in the color.

Just had to share some pics I got last night. These prove silkies should not get wet. I almost couldn't tell who was who.:lau This is Blue Scarlett This is "Sarge" if it's a boy or "Sara" if it's a girl. (I'm leaning towards boy ) Tryin to get warm and dry. Silly chickens didn't know to stay out of the rain. Now for some pretty pictures. I have to say that silkies and cochins are my favorite. This is Skuttle she is a silkie/frizzle mix. Tony Hemmingway Jethro Just a few of them hanging out, playin in the leaves.
Glad I'm not the only one that has silly silkies that won't come in out of the rain. With it getting colder I worry they will be too cold, but you would think they would know what their bodies need. They hate when I lock them up when it rains. Stopped doing that & just letting them make the decision to go out or not. After everyone gets wet, I towel them off & turn on the heat lamp in the coop for a short while. None seem to be worse for wear.
