I woke up this morning thinking about Silkies (mine aren't even here yet!) I know the poof on their head makes it difficult for them to see and I was wondering if anyone ever slicks it back with vaseline, like they used to do with guys hair in the 50's, or puts baby barrettes on them???? (Please don't laugh at me... )

My silkie, Baby, is extra poofy and I trim her poof just a smidge so she can see. Otherwise, she runs into things. I worry she might not see a predator coming, so have trimmed her even more. She is my prettiest silkie and I keep a close watch on her. I'd trim. They would look cute with teeny barrettes, tho! I'm sure the fellas would protest, tho! ha!

I don't think the Vaseline would be a good idea, it would get the feathers really dirty and matted. Everything from dust to litter would stick to it! I think most people trim some of the feathers away from the sides of the eyes. Mine are just babies, so I'm not there yet!
