Silkie thread!

Oh how pretty. I have a white silkie mix roo, well cockerel, that started out very slow. He was nealry bare and his clutch mates where fully feathered. He is now 6 months old and is so pretty. His wings are slightly frizzled and so is his neck feathers, His toe feathers are frizzled. His tail is just angelic. He still has feathers coming in and his head is still to get more but he just reminds me of an angel. He's not exactly frizzled or silkie or sizzle. He is the house chicken because his friends don't want him in their pen. They peck at him and call him names and hurts his feelings.

So he lives in here with me and is spoiled. He still isn't the size he should be but he is turning out to be just beautiful. If they had a category for mixed up in a poultry show, i'd enter him.

Brody's Broodello :

Ok a while back I post pics of these strange color chicks. I had an idea as to how to creat a certain color silkie, so I set out to do just that. Here is the results:

It's a CALICO! Just like I figured from my research, the breeding produced exactly what I wanted & expected!

All the males look just like this fellow. Now the females looked like partridges at hatching, this is what they look like now.

Most of these will be available, as many as I can get in the truck for the ride up. I also have a few White cocks that are carrying the Silver gene as well. Need to make some room for the Porcelains & Lavs!

You aren't making very many whites

oldtimegator wanted to see these two babies. So what color are they?

To me one looks Gray partridge and the other dark partridge. Both of these have white shaft on top and black on bottom. But not Lav.

Maybe you can buy them back or just kick yourself for selling them. I know I would.

He's gorgeous!

Your cockerels have great crests, foot and tail feathering.
I have 2 hens from other birds that I'm going to put with your cockerels just to improve type.

Are the white cocks with the silver gene from your grande dam white hen? She's magnificent.

I am not trying to bash, but from what has been posted on the ASBC and here by multiple ASBC members and silkie exhibitors, I believe the proposed standard or idea of calico is different from what you have, which is closer in color to a really typey cock I've held onto for over a year although I really should cull him. I have come to the conclusion he is either a mismarked partridge or a grey with red leakage.

As gorgeous as your male and female are (I personally think the color is very pretty) I don't think they are calico persay, but another new color which seems to appear out of some breedings. My cock is out of a Mihalik roo and was not bred by me, if it was a girl it was to go to a little old lady who wanted to replace her predated 12 year old silkie hens, but it was a boy and but by the time he sexed out he was already so fluffy, round, and typey that he has been here ever since.

This is a TERRIBLE picture of him as I have an older digital camera and lack photography skills.

Now Sonoran had some pictures up awhile back of what I had seen called and discussed as being calico, and it was closer in resemblance to a splash bird with multi colored splashes.

I have never seen the colors posted on this thread in the last few days but they are pretty.
SilkieTime One of the blue babies in my brooder is showing partridge (like the one in your pic) in a 4 feathers around the neck, so I am not sure what I will do with him or her just yet I will have to see how it turns out. It is from a Bobbi Porto roo over a Mary Robins hen. Mary does not keep partridge far as I know so that has to be coming from the roo. I have 2 others in there with it and they are not showing any other color at this time. I wonder if they will throw partridge. Probably so right.?

Here are a couple pics of my pullets that will be in my main flock. I think they are great! What do you guys think? Bigdawg this is your competition for next year just so you know! We are coming after you!
