dose each chick - if you put in water, you don't know how much they drank,. You can also give them a couple drops squeezed from a vitamin E capsule- my silkie friend put the drops on a bit of grape and the chicks loved it.

Ok, thanks. I will pick up some vitamin E too tomorrow. Does moving them from say the breeder to my house stress them a lot?

Five toes on each foot..check: Black skin...check: Slate beak..check: Black eyes...check: Well feathered legs and middle toe...check: Healthy strong little guy/gal hatched and got out of the egg on their own. Awesome! Five pipped still working on the unzipping. Day 21. Right on time. Hoping for more Silkie baby awesomeness.

I have a newly hatched silkie that I hatched in an incubator and the poor little thing can't seem to get it's feet under it to stand. So therefore it is not eating or drinking it hatched 4 days ago. I have been holding it to the water dish and it will drink a little. Any help on why it can't seem to get on it's feet or what I need to do would be greatly appreciated.

I have another question... some of you guys told me he is gray...but there is no gray color. Is he splash? I thought he was. I thought "gray" was called blue as well. As just a lighter smoky black. Thanks for the help!

Is it the only chick in the incubator with this problem? Did you keep a notebook with notations on your temp and humidity readings? Did you help it out of the egg or did it hatch on it's own? Have you ever had this happen with any other chicks from the same mating? As you can see with my questions there are a lot of variables. I am a breeder and use the progeny test with my chicks. I don't know what you can do to help this chick after four days. Others may have advice that worked for them in a similar situation. I would use advice that people have actually used. Not just some random ideas that are unproven. You are kind of running out of time to get this chick off to a good start. Good luck. It's very difficult when this happens. I know from experience. I personally would not let the chick suffer if it does not improve very soon.

Just a note, do not put ACV in stainless steel, it will make the metal leach out toxins.

May have splay leg. People have put them inside of a teacup to keep them upright, or something else that is small that they can stand but not fall over. Gray is a project color.
