I'm going to look at a splash cockerel to possibly buy to cross with my blue pullet. It originally came from Bad Azz Silkies. Anybody know anything about their birds ?

YAY!!!  My silkie eggs I got on this site will be hatching on Thursday!  I'm so excited.  I had two batches going, my own silkies, and the ones I got in the mail- will you be using 2 incubators?  I had to, since my eggs were close to hatching when I put my new silkie eggs in and the humidities were to be different.

No. I have only one incubator. My first batch should hatch just before lockdown on the second batch. Hopefully all goes well.

Thanks. This is the first time I will be hatching from my own silkies. If all goes well then I will have silkie chicks for sale and hatching eggs for sale too.
That's what my goal is, there isn't any place close to me that has hatching eggs.

I think (I'd have to go back and look at my Facebook messages) he came from Bad Azz. I asume it is their breeding. I've only seen a picture of his head so far, but that alone was enough to convince me to go there and take a look.

Why isn't she breeding material? Nonbearded are recognized varieties, and relatively few are shown, so winning the variety is usually more likely. (Bearded blue and non-bearded blue are separate varieties. Ditto for other colours/patterns.)

This is my non-bearded. I didn't think she would be worth breeding the way her cushion is. It's always flat down as you can see in this picture.
This was her at maybe 5 or 6 months old. She must be 8 or 9 months old now. I just don't have a fresh picture but she doesn't look much different than this today.
Is it just my lack of knowledge with the non-bearded? Should they have a larger crest?

Pair her with the best short backed non-bearded male you can find and I bet you will get some very nice offspring.

At least a 25% chance of Bl/Bl.

Well... If I had the space, I would go looking for a non-bearded male for her. Unfortunately I do not, so I think I will sell her and make room for my bearded girls. Hopefully I can find someone that might want to breed her.

So I've been itching to get an incubator! e
Now I know that it won't be a waste of my money and it will get plenty of use. Problem is, I have no idea what to pick. Price wise the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco would be great. But how idiot proof is it? lol Especially when the person operating it has never used an incubator.
It says on the website that there is no facility for humidity measurement control (whatever that means). How do I measure the humidity?

The day I find myself an incubator, I'm doing a test run with our pet chicken eggs to make sure I'm doing it right before I put anything valuable in there.  

BEWARE!!! I will be asking a billion questions when it's time! lol

DO IT! Seriously, get the bator! I got one this past Spring (an LG, traded some hatching eggs for it- SCORE) and I've had sooooo much fun with it. No facility for humidity measurement means it doesn't come with a hygrometer, but you can find them at Walmart and just about any pet store that sells reptile supplies, I don't even use a hygrometer and I still get good hatches. You should go and read through the Incubating and Hatching Eggs section, in fact, its very possible the Brisnea has its own thread there. BEWARE- once you get your bator you'll discover you have a very addictive personality. Its a terrible, TERRIBLE disease! Good luck!

Also where do you find the specifications of what a silkie should look like.
