I'm wondering the same thing, only my silkies won't let me catch them, let alone touch them or hold still for a feather clipping. I'm wondering if I can find a livestock vet to do it.I wonder if anyone else has considered giving their Silkie a 'hair' cut? I have 2 hens and 2 roos and one of my girls has such a Poof that im sure she cant see very well. I want to trim around her eyes a little bit because she doesnt seem to forage around like all of my other birds.
you can if you aren't planning on showing. You can try going to a groomer who also does birds? just tell them what you want and hold the birds.I'm wondering the same thing, only my silkies won't let me catch them, let alone touch them or hold still for a feather clipping. yeah, mine does that all the time. Like she's falling asleep(Also, I originally posted this in the injuries forum, but haven't had a response, so maybe I'll have more luck here?) Hi. My silkie hen (3.5 months old) goes into a sort of trance and lifts her head up slowly, drops it back down again and then raises it slowly again. She does this a lot. It's not like she's trying to hold her head up - she can do that fine. And she doesn't seem to be sick in any way. I'm wondering if she has some brain damage (maybe from being pecked in the head by my roo). She also sometimes stands facing the corner and will do that for ages. Has anyone else had their silkies do this?

Thanks, ChicksNherps. I'd have to catch them first!!you can if you aren't planning on showing. You can try going to a groomer who also does birds? just tell them what you want and hold the birds.
Thank you so much. It's a relief to know others do it too. I searched everywhere online and all I could find was Mareks disease and I don't think she has that because she can move her head fine. And yes, I think she can barely see out from under her feather puff hat.yeah, mine does that all the time. Like she's falling asleepdoes she have a large crest/muffs? That may be why she stands facing the corner, can't see. Mine does that as well.
