Silkie thread!

Why not just interact with them while mama is raising them? Then you can let her raise them the normal 6 weeks to 2 months that is natural.

This is what I do from hatch. I hang out in the coop real close to the broody and her chicks. Never moving real fast. Hand feed the momma so the chicks learn that I am not a threat. I have done this with two batches and all chicks are comfortable with me around. Now I don't handle them for pets, only for inspections, which they tolerate.

I love those ideas; however, would it still work with my situation? My little white silkie will be hatching Pekin/Rouen mix ducks. If I let her raise them for 6 weeks to 2 months, she will be walking UNDER THEM - LOL.

I have a show girl that crows every morning. The person I got her from said she was a hen. I have never heard of a hen crowing. Do they, or do I have a rooster. If so, I will have to rename her as her name is Marilyn now. Thanks as I am a neebie at raising chickens. I have the show girl, a shadow (this one crows toos) and a blue (this one was suppose to be the rooster and does not crows at all) silkie. They are about six months old. At what age do they start laying eyes? I really love them. They are so soft and cuddly.
Post photos of all, and we will help. Yes, sometimes hens crow, but in my experience, not as regularly as that; and annecdotally, not regularly when there ARE roosters present

Looking Great! You are doing a excellent job. :) isn't it awesome to see them get better.

Yes it is. It broke by heart when I first saw its foot. I didn't even notice it until we got home because my son held it the whole way! I'm not sure about the color. I guess a partridge of some sort. It doesn't matter to him since its his birthday present!

I hope all is well.

I just got 3 chicks and would like to know more about them. I had chickens when I was younger, around 7 or something.... just standard chickens, hahaha I guess. I was told I bought Bantam Silkie Chicks, they were all mixed together...just left overs maybe. They couldn't tell me what they would look like or temperament. I was told they carried only certain breed... they showed me a picture on a chart, of what one may look like.

I am hoping I could get some help, figuring out what they will look like! Clearly I found the right spot to ask!

Please help, if you are able, I would greatly appreciate it!

I think you were dooped, those are not silkies at all but they look like bantam cochins or possibly another feather footed breed. Silkies have a walnut comb, black skin, and don't come in quite those colors

I was just about to say the same thing. Having the feathered feet is about all those birds have in common with silkies. Silkie babies are very distinctive looking. If they are indeed bantam.I would go with Cochin also, or some other feather footed breed, like a bantam Brahma or a d'uccle. If you are looking for silkies I would continue your quest. :) there is a what breed/gender is this thread. I would post their pictures there! Good luck, enjoy your peeps they're adorable.
