My only chick to survive being born in the coop today. My other chick choked on bedding, but I'm so glad at least 1 made it.

Hi All! I took a few days off from BYC and whew! Anyhow, you all have some great stories and posts. Marbles is starting to get big! Here are some iPhone photos to update you all... I love her!

Marbles in the middle! lol. The twins on the left and Andy the tank on the right!

Marbles sitting on Noodle while I watch late night tv.

Getting big.

My smallest and my tallest. Sue the BSL is like an ostridge. Andy has a bigger body, but Sue is super tall.

You're hooked, huh?

Love the group shot with the kitty. Looks a lot like a Russian Blue?

I just heard in another silkie thread that someone suspected their chick to be a roo because he talks a lot and is fearless..... How true is this? Marbles is CONSTANTLY chatting. Its really cute. Especially when her head is in the food bowl. Which is almost all the time lol!
I don't know that that's true. I think all chicks talk a lot and get excited about food. So do adult Silkies. You'd think they had the jackpot when I give them treats...or just fill their food dish.

Funny!

I just lost a chick under a hen. Half of it's body was still in the egg and squished under the hen when I found it. I'm thinking the poor thing got stuck in the egg.. Glad you got one healthy one! I got 2 out of 3.

Sorry guys, not all Silkie babies but these are our Silkie hens taking care of chicks that we hatched in an incubator.

There's a little blue Silkie there!

I love these two broody hens. The white one doesn't look like much and the blue...she's ok...but they're the best darn broodies we have!

I started out with the white hen sitting on 4 eggs. Well...about 2 weeks later two other hens joined the pile and now that we had one egg hatch last night, they're all fighting over the chick! So I figured I'd try giving them these 5 day old chicks. It's all working out well so far. Chicks are happy. Moms are happy. I'm happy!

Cute! Just love pics of the babies peeking out from under the hen.

Hi I am planning to hatch eggs but I don't know much about them and I can't seem to find much on the Internet about it and I have a lot of questions that need answers like :
What temperature in (c) do I have the incubator
Do I ever change the temperature
How much percentage humidity
How to change the humidity
Do I ever change humidity
How to know my themometer and hygrometer are accurate
If I want 5 silkies how much eggs should I get considering some not hatching
Good websites on hatching?
Please answer the above
Just wanted to post some pics I took today, I love my silkies!

They look wonderful!!

I am new to the silky breed. I was given one by a friend about 6 weeks ago. It is a cute little thing. It started out gray and now has black plumage? coming in in areas. My question is, my other two chicks of the same age are pretty much fully feathered and I have put them in the coop. When would it be time for me to put the silky in there also? I don't want the poor little thing to get cold. right now it is snuggled up with my 17 two day old mutt chicks.
