They are cute =D but... the one on the right is not a silkie.
I keep my newly hatched chicks separate with a divider, for about a week. The biggest concern with silkies is that they have a hole in the skull like a new born human baby and are subject to head injury.Well my chicken breeder finally hatched a silkie today!! It's a blue/silver? I need to know if I can keep her with a 2 25 day old chicks and 1 18 day old chick? They are all very nice chicks so I don't see it being a problem but I don't know!
I plan on picking out a another baby chick so she can have a buddy, will this help? If need be I have an extra brooder I can set up.
I have never raised a silkie so any tips would be great!
Your photos are really beautiful! I love the unique color of your hen. Does she have gold on her wings as it appears in the photo? Here are our two Silkies.
Our hen (Little Bit) just got does sitting, she did a good job but nothing hatched. She's getting back into the hang of things with the rest of the flock. Not sure what color she would be.
And our handsome Roo, SunKist. He was sold to us as a Buff, but I'm pretty sure he's a Red.
Anyways, Enjoy!
Don't worry about talking too much.Either way would probably work. They will still have to do "pecking order" once or twice before they settle in - just watch them.
It is really cute. I think it needs to dry off a bit - still wet from hatching. Once it fluffs up we can guess what color it is. And yes - they are so cute!
Anything crossed with White except White was answered above. The short answer is "Who Knows". It is based on what is UNDER that white - and it is different for each bird and you can't see it.
Splash x Blue = 50% Splash, 50% Blue
Splash x Black = 100% Blue
Blue x Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
Welcome to silkie addiction!I am soooo enjoying this thread! Beautiful pictures. Love all the different colors. I've 1 White Silky hen that is now 2 yrs old, her Black daughter who is 1 yr old, her White Showgirl daughter who is only 8 months. Also have a Partridge Roo, but I've suspicions that he is not pure Silky. I've 2 chicks from the Partridge Roo/2yr old white hen. 1 Partridge & 1 Blue. I just bought 4 - day old chicks from a hatchery. 2 Blue & 2 Splash. Here's hoping they grow well and aren't all Roo's!
My broody (pictured in my avatar) now has 3 lovely chicks. I ended up having to pop the last egg in my bator bc the hen buried it and brought the others off the nest. It hatched last night though, and I gave it back to her this morning. Tina was so happy to have her baby back. The bator chick has an adorable vaulted skull, my first, so I'm glad I brought it in! Its raining right now, but I'll share pics as soon as I can!
