Silkie thread!

Um.. forget to collect the eggs a couple of days.. they get the idea fast

Actually Mikie was the last to join the "Broody Gang" First it was one I had moved to break her - once she moved back she went back - then it was her mom - and now Minkie thinks it looks like fun too! Its really funny to see all three of them squished in the milk carton I use for a nest - but they all do it!

Oh - I meant to ask - did you ever have any black chicks from Jaz/Minkie? I am confused here because I didn't think Black could hide under Partridge - but I have two Partridge chicks and 3 Black chicks from Minkie's eggs. I only had one other girl in with her - and those eggs were brown and I ate them. So these are Minkie's eggs and Jaz is the father.

The chicks:

Unless. I have a gremlin who likes to switch eggs around - I did get that one white chick from the Partridge eggs

I guess I am supposed to have more colors than just Partridge - now I have white, buff, partridge, blue and black...
No blacks from the Partridge.... There were quite a lot of them hatched and they were all partridge. Well except that "partridge" ( white) egg I gave you lol!

Hi, im new To keeping silkies and just wondered at what age to they start to lay? We bought some beautiful white non-bearded silkies and were told they were 11 weeks old, but yesterday when I put 'Cinderella' on the floor im positive she was squatting, her wings were slightly out and her tail stuck up in the air for a few seconds? Maybe she got scared but im almost certain it was a little squatt! Any advice from the experts greatly received :)

Chickens will squat as a submission behavior.

Maybe you guys can help me, I'm new with all this stuff. My silkie was brooding last week and we finally got her to stop; now all her feathers are coming out of her chest. To me it seems like her temperature is higher than the other girls just by holding her.She is eating and drinking normally. Is she molting? Or does molting happen in a different season? Please look at the attached picture. Also, is there any suggestions on vets you can take chickens to?

Thank you for any help!

My daughter loving on a self blue.

And her haul of silkies.
She's just precious and is being so gently with her chick.

I think this is a fairly decent side by side photo standing at their wading pool which they sometimes drink from. Pet quality girl who was a rescue (she and two other girls I have were actually rescued from a flood). She has some really great qualities and is a wonderful chicken and is so sweet. My paint girl (CatDance) that I will be showing this fall, also a really great chicken with great qualities. I did a test run on her eggs that she just started laying and I am pleased to report are looking really good (at least I think).

The first born baby of the paint girl at 2 days old:

And here is the other girl doing what she loves best - being a Mommy!

Beautiful paint! Love the momma too. So cute with her chicks.

Here are the chicks from broody Tina. She's doing a great job taking care of them

Tina is the self blue cream/porcelain hen in my avatar. Dad is a very smutty buff.

This ones my favorite, the only chick to hatch with a vaulted skull.

This ones blue? This picture washes it out a little, the pic below with all 3 of them together shows its color much better (its VERY blue, with yellow around its eyes).

This one would not hold still, booger!

All 3 of my cuties! Interesting colors, I think!
Love, love, love!!!

Great news! I got home yesterday evening to a raccoon in the trap I'd set.

The cat food and PB worked like a charm! DH carried him off. I think there may be a second one. The dogs were all in an uproar this morning with my retriever clawing at the little area by the woodpile where the coon was coming into the backyard. To be safe I'm going to set the trap again tonight. Thanks to all who gave advice and support. I couldn't have done it without you.
