Silkie thread!

After my husband called me to say that 19 of my chickens (various breeds and nearly all of them 4 months old or younger) had been stolen, I immediately set out on my quest to find a newt Silkie roo (I was out of town). After some help from my daughter in another state, I got the phone # of the lady who had sold me my last one.
I had a choice between a painted and this Calico. I don't show and I loved his color (yes I have been told it is not a ecognized color...but for my purposes, he is wonderful!)

When it's a hot & humid Georgia day...the girls like to gather under the coop around the ole dust bath for the daily gossip. (even at the ripe young age of 7wks)

My silkies love their swinging cabbage treat :)
Love this idea!!

Two newest additions. I thought normal silkie chicks were tiny, but the little guy on the left (silkie x oegb) is just soooo small and cute

He has five toes on one foot and four on the other, a beard, walnut comb, and some leg feathering. I have 4 hens with chicks in the silkie pen right now, and the other broody hens know he is different from a normal silkie chick. They make an 'alarm' sound whenever he walks by with the mother who hatched him. But she protects him and loves him just as much as her pure silkie chick.

This is the only picture I could find which compares his mother's size to the silkies. She is outside the fence to the left of the silkies, she sort of blends in. She's a tiny girl.
Wow, she is a tiny little thing! The chicks are adorable.

He is just gorgeous!

New to silkies and it does not matter wether they are or are not bearded now because these are my babies, but...can anyone tell me if at 7 weeks old these are bearded or not?

The one on the left is definitely non-bearded. One on the right almost looks bearded.

That is terrible that somebody would steal your chickens! Grrrr......

But he certainly is a handsome dude. Almost Partridge, except for that silver collar.

They are so cute at that stage.. heck -they are cute all their lives! Love my Silkies!

The left one looks to be non-bearded. The right one I can't tell if that is facial fluff or if it is non-bearded also. If it was the result of a cross between a bearded and a non-bearded that might be just poor facial fluff... Its why people say not to cross them if you raise bearded birds. I am raising both.
