Try trimming just the ones that cover her eyes - both from above - AND below. The beard/muff can block the vision down, which is where their food is. Use baby scissors or something that is not sharp.

That's what I ended up doing. She still has a huge poof, but from the sides I can see her eyes now. I did a few of my girls. Some can see just fine some had a lot of eye coverage. Do they have any forward vision at all? Or just side.

She still has feathers out front. I only trimmed the sides. I guess tomorrow i'll go trim a bit more off the front. She is so cute, I don't want to cut more lol!

My two Catdance hens and two Sheryl Butler pullets have proven their worth! I hatched eleven chicks. Food coloring identifies the chicks to the mom. The cock I used is my Catdance boy I brought home in Feb. with Bonney and Dumpling. Karen re-homed Dumpling to me and she is my darling 'Dumpy'. I have two chicks hatched by her and three by Bonney. Four by SB Miss Peggy and two by SB Miss Posey. They are very pretty chicks. Nine of eleven have a vaulted skull. So active and vigorous I can hardly believe it. They aren't twenty four hours old yet!

Thanks chicknmama! I watch them a little every day too especially because they're so amusing but I just never see any action haha! I'll post pics as soon as I can.

My Silky Roo is not the least bit bashful about mating w/his 3 females. Of course all 3 just hatched chicks so he's felt neglected and is making up for lost time

I never thought when I got chickens that I'd end up with them in the house. But here I am, with two chickens who reside indoors. This is Mozzarella, the six-month-old hopefully pullet who lives with Thunderhead in my mud room. She's very timid and hard to get good pictures of, especially with a cell phone. I need a new camera.



She's pretty nervous around people. We didn't get her until she was almost five months old and she lived on a farm with little human contact. This is her usual stance when she's out of her pen and in the presence of people. I'd love to get a more relaxed shot of her, but she's not having any of us or the camera no matter how many treats we offer her. Even when she's in her familiar pen with Thunderhead around, she gets nervous and hides in the little nest box I made for them when anyone comes in the room. She's actually quite pretty when she's not all stiff and scared.



And here's Thunderhead, the one who still won't eat, but acts normal otherwise. We're still working on that problem. He was just fed before I took his picture, so he was not a happy silkie. His streamers don't show well in this picture, but he already has them at two months old. He was not in the mood for a head shot. He kept turning around.
