I have one tiny 'lil brown silky hen which I hatched underneath an old broody RIR hen last spring. But I'll tell ya, That 'lil silky girl bosses all 30 RIR's, buffys, coppers, plymouths, leghorns,and brahmas around all day long! I want more! They are absolutely ADORABLE!

Your bird is a Sizzle - which is a cross between a Silkie and a Cochin, bred back to a Silkie to get the blue ears, dark skin, etc?

I would guess you have a boy there - and that is not normal for Silkies, but may be perfectly normal for Sizzles and cross breeds.

I did have one girl (not a Silkie) that had a red comb very early - but she got bit by something right in the middle of her comb and it was irritated.  However, she did not grow wattles...

These are my two silkies that i just bought. They are both a year old. I also have this other hen who may be part silkie; I think she is a barred rock crossed with a silkie...

About 3-5, my silkies have stopped laying altogether right now because of the heat.
