Silkie thread!

That's a relief ,thanks. I had planned on putting her under the hens by now but I thought it would be best to wait for the half hatched on and put them in with the hens at the same time.

I would keep them together, sometimes it helps them to hatch if they have a "cheerleader" to talk to. Sending good hatching vibes your way for half out!

Thanks chicknmama, there right by each other peeping to back and forth at times. I have the half hatched one on a wet wash cloth the girls didn't want the hatched one getting wet from the cloth. It's starting to fluff up. As soon as it hatches ill put it with the other one. I have a long night a head keeping the membrane wet every two hours and I'm so sleepy already. :(

So sorry Suzierd!

Thank you, a bit heart broken this morning. Have to focus on little Mumsy now. I went ahead and put her with the hens and siblings last night so I new she would be warm enough and was up at day break making sure she was ok and once they started moving around poor Mumsy was getting trampled one hen took a peck at her I don't think it was a mean peck but still scared me she is just to far behind she was getting bull dozed so I pulled her back out. I'm going to work on getting her up and running, eating and drinking then try it again. Going into coastal to get the chick electrolyte packets if they still have them.

I am sorry your efforts did not save the one chick. It touches me you named the little one you saved 'Mumsy'. You are doing what you can. That is sometimes all we can do.

She didn't make it.

maybe I should have taken her all the way out. Thanks for helping me, we tried.

I'm sorry.

On Mumsie and being pecked, I find that sometimes when I put a chick next to its mamma she pecks on it to hear what it sounds like. If she recognizes the peep she accepts it. Sort of like "who are you" peck. The ones I tried to introduce that she didn't accept she growled at and chased off.

However, if Mumsy isn't keeping up with momma it sounds like she needs a bit more time to get sturdy.

Judy The Broody called her four chicks out of the nest to feed them scrambled egg this morning.

MIss Posey hatched two out yesterday and one this morning. This is her first time successfully brooding. She is a pullet I hatched from Sheryl Butler eggs. Miss Posey setting in a flower pot seems fitting.

Eleven in a brooder in the house and seven so far by broody in the barn. One more broody left to hatch out her clutch. Miss Bonney, my Catdance hen. She has tried twice before and failed. Here's hoping.

You can make you own electrolyte...

2 cups water
2 Tablespoons Molasses or Honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Mix till dissolved, refrigerate the extra not being used.

Save you a trip to town.

So sorry about the baby chick. I hope little Mumsy gets nice and strong.
