Silkie thread!

17 babies?! I hope I get at least half that many!! 5 more days....:fl :fl :fl

Yes we had a great hatch rate 17 out of 22. I lost 2 babies that hatched I don't know why?
Now I will need to find homes for some of them !
Started a website for people in CT to buy PQ silkies from me 2manytoesfarm.com

Good luck with your babies !!! It really is so much fun !!!

I am hopefully getting a couple 4 week old silkie chicks soon! I was wondering if anyone has any tips about taking care of them! (example: feed, handling , general knowledge, etc.)
If anyone has any tricks to sexing them that would be lovely!
thanks!

I have a roo like that. Huge comb early, crowed before we could even put them outside...his little buddy that he took such great care off "turned into a boy" according to my hubby at a few months old. They were the same age and the second roo didn't show himself til months after the first. No comb, or crowing. Lol. Tricky buggers. Imagine our surprise when our little favorite "girl" Eggbert started to crow/moan one day at about 4-5 months old. He might be really confused though...dances for the girls but have never seen him mount even once in 8-9 months.

Is it possible to breed out a bad comb. I have a rooster that I think look good but his comb is not right.
Is he a dark partridge? Or is the hackles considered leakage? Very pretty! I have a chick starting to look like him seeing some gold starting up in the black, but I thought it was looking like a girl but to young to tell.
