I just checked my Instagram and saw his partridge hen Butterscotch came down with the tell tale signs of Mareks.....He is really sad and may have to end up putting her down!
His Petsitter found this when he was on vacation....now she is to the point where she cannot walk and has a foot that reaches forward.
Butterscotch was one of his first silkies, and also raised some chicks...if she DOES have mareks......who knows what other birds in his flock she had been around!







PLEASE prey for his flock! he is such a nice friend of mine!

Virtually all flocks contain mareks. Unless multiple birds start showing significant symptoms, it is not something to worry over much about.

Thanks! yesterday while collecting eggs I took them from her.....she still sat. my mom came round and pushed her off....she doesn't want her to be broody.....LOL I do! after marshie was pushed off she sort of just sat there stunned and went again, just sitting where she was! she didn't even move! is this a good sign for a broody? I hope so! then I would let her sit on her eggs...if she lays one the next day I may let her have that one too....


if I go down later ill post a pic of her....maybe a video?

Let her hatch!! She is broody.yes 2 or so eggs is good and maybe a few golf balls. It'll make her feel accomplished.

Ok! ill see when I get the time to set the eggs fully! I may throw in my other mixe's eggs once she begins laying in a few weeks or days. I will definitely let marshie have her broody chance! I see her being an good mom! PM me so I can ask some other questions and keep in touch.

Mama silkie with brand new baby Faverolles. She's a great mother and tolerates my constant peeking. Lol I LOVE silkies....fuzzy bundles of love that are the best incubators ever.

I can't wait for my Silkies to be old enough to brood some chicks! How are the eggs from the GCM and BWA coming along? See any veining yet? When are your other eggs due?

Does anyone else name their silkies after Kungfo characters/stars? We have BruceLee, (she is a blue hen but was named such because her egg spun and rolled around the incubator for 24 hours before it even pipped), PO another hen Splash. And this guy was Master Shifu, but he reminds me of Williams in the Bruce Lee movie with the big afro. Jim Kelly was the actor.

Dont mind the mess about a foot of snow has melted in the last few days.

I saw on FB today that it is Mareks Poor guy. I often wonder if the chicks are worse off if I vaccinate without someone showing me how. I've seen it on You Tube, but need to be shown hands-on. I'm afraid that I might kill them
