Silkie thread!

I saw on FB today that it is Mareks :( Poor guy. I often wonder if the chicks are worse off if I vaccinate without someone showing me how. I've seen it on You Tube, but need to be shown hands-on. I'm afraid that I might kill them

Yes unfortunately she had to be put down. All my birds but a few have the vaccine and I will be sure to vaccine my chicks due to hatch. My vet is going to show me how to do it.

Thank you for all the prayers and advice from everyone. We did everything we could, but there was little we could do to help her.

Today was a very sad day on our farm. The vet said butterscotch definitely had marek's and she would soon get uncomfortable and die within a week. We had to make the decision no poultry keeper wants to make, that she had to be put down. Thank you everyone for your advice and prayers, it means a lot to us.

Butterscotch will be in our hearts forever and continue to be a troublemaker in heaven. Everyone here is in tears, even the vet who had only met her once was in tears after the procedure, because she was such gentle and beautiful bird. She grew up here with her step sisters and step mother and changed all our lives. She was our first silkie. She was just an innocent, playful soul. She will be buried in the apple orchard where her flock mates can visit her as they please.

Haha. Very cute. What ever. Its a tough world people need to get over themselves. Our farm animals were always named for their coat colors.

I have a silkie cross hatched on newyears who I named milkshake.....when he hatched he had yellow AND black skin....not being raciest (you cant be with a chicken), I named him milkshake

I don't have any Avian vets. There are a lot of chicken houses- I'll try to find out if my husband's friend can help me.

I am also scarred to vaccinate...some say it does no good. none of my birds have been vaccinated....should I start? buckNbark...you don't so I think I should be all good for now. I know my breeder could teach me....he always offers....although I have no vet that could take poultry to put down....maybe my local vet could?

The 5th egg hatched finally!!!!! Whoo Hoo!! Man I hate worrying like that. So I candled the sixth to see if it had internally pipped yet, no go. It was all dark as it should be, but I couldn't tell if it was moving or not. If it was it was slight. It looked a lot like this, but fuller. I could still see a lighter edge near the air cell, and shape of baby at edge. Should there be much movement at day 22? By the way if I was using an incubator I would not have candled at day 22, but they are under a broody. This is the sixth egg... Is this a normal candle (sans movement)

Hi- I'm really just starting out. I've only hatched out 4 chicks to sell, and the rest I kept. I'm planning on breeding seriously next month or so. The only reason that I don't is because I'm afraid that I will kill them. I'm going to see if anyone that is going to a show at the beginning of the month (Calhoun, GA) can show me the area to give the shot. . I'm sure they won't have any day old chicks there, tho!

Does anybody have any silkie (chicks) for sale? I am in search of lavender, porcelain, splash, blue, and pretty much any oddly colored silkie. I love the silkies on the "Silkies of a different color thread" and yet I am having trouble finding any silkies (young or old) that are any color but black or white. My goal is to have a variety of colors, but as of now I am having trouble finding any for sale. If anyone has any that they would be willing to sell/ship, that would be great, or knows where I can find some. Thanks.
