Silkie thread!

I love rooster crowing videos! My husband is "horrified" is how he described hearing your video. Doesn't look too good for any cockerels.

This one is actually quieter than the boys outside, I had my phone right up to my face and the bird was laying on my chest. We live in town and the Roos don't bother anyone-yet.

My little chicken is getting all grown up! I gave him a bath and let him stay inside while he dried off. He crowed for the first time in front of me today!

Did you blow dry him or let him air dry naturally? My Silkies, actually most Silkies, love to stand in front of blowing heaters and fans. My Silkies seek out a heater or a blowing fan when in the house because they like to feel the circulating air. I blow-dry all my chicken breeds after a bath and they all seem to like the warm drying effect of circulating air. Of course I keep my fingers up to their skin to make sure the blow dryer isn't too hot on their skin. The noise doesn't even bother them. But they absolutely LOVE it! Who knew?

At our County Fair several White Silkies on exhibit were given a huge box fan and all of them piled up in front of it to feel the breeze LOL

My baby is not growing... I bought Cochins and Silkies 4 weeks ago and they were approximately all 2 weeks old other than 2 pure white silkies I bought a week later at 1 week old. Anyway.... Even my white silkies are bigger than Cutie... Her feathers are changing and she eats and drinks like crazy just like the rest of them... Not sure what to think or do. Hope I am posting this in the right place. Any advice welcome. Oh and yes I know they are out growing cage but I have to finish run tomorrow so hawks will not get to them when I move them to new coop :)

I had 2 APA Ameraucanas from a breeder. I kept sending her emails that one just wasn't growing and seemed to be eating the poop. Finally 2 weeks later the breeder said that indicated a digestive problem and to worm the juveniles. Too late - the one that wouldn't grow was dead the next morning. If the breeder had been quicker to reply to me maybe, dunno, I could've tried the worming earlier to save it if that was the problem? Never know with chicks/juvies what could be the matter.

Normally I blow dry them cause it takes hours to air dry, and boy do they love getting blow dried! Lol They just seem to want to stay by the dry heat and soak it all up! I am recuperating from a cold and thought I'd let him dry inside so we could snuggle-and that silkie did make me feel better!

That the county fair does that for silkies just goes to show how special they are! They need that extra attention and care! :)

Ok. I have two questions.
1. Can I put new baby silkies in with 3 week old silkies? Or will they kill the new babies?

2. Has anyone ever hatched bantam eggs under a LF hen?

I wouldn't recommend doing either. I hatched silkies under my large fowl cochin hen, and she accidentally smashed one. Baby silkies are just very small. If you didn't have too many eggs under her, you might be okay.

Maybe it's just me but I quarantine new chicks for at least a month before introducing them with other birds. Once the quarantine time is passed, I put up a fence between the two groups to get acquainted through the wire. Then one day remove the wire and the older and newer birds don't realize they've been mingled. My egg seller friend does the same with her new bird integrations.

Silkies are ok as broody hens on LF eggs but not the other way around.

I had to share bc my son LOVES "his" chickens and it is the sweetest thing to see him with his Dot, this chicken rides in the wagon as my son totes him around everywhere and is perfectly content with it.

Now that its warm I let him go out whenever and it never fails I find him with Dot... I love it
