I have a chick that was white, but now it has a couple sprigs of black in its feathers, one on top of its head and one to the side of her tail. Would this make her a splash? Could she possibly be lavendar?

If the spots are BLACK my guess is that is leakage like a paint has. Lavender will not just SHOW up..... nor does it have any other colors expressing. Lavender breeds true and does not have darker patches like blue will. Splash will look like a pale pale blue to white with some darker patches of blue (not black) some splash will look light blue with darker blue patches. I don't have any examples of that in silkies.

Ooo, more charts. Hey DM, don't they call that smut? Like in a buff, with a bit of black in the wings and tail..not a very nice sounding word..but I've heard it called that before.

A nice clean white..that's what I am looking for. With a nice full muff and beard.

Leakage is what that is. Bleeding of a color where that color shouldn't be. Smuttiness is like on a pattern like lacing or penciling and the color is not CRISP..... smutty looking. Like you paint a sharp line and then run the brush through the paint and smear it. With lacing it could be just some black dots hear and there like splattered paint.

Does that make sense?

Hey, I need to send you the latest photo of my Rhodebar I hatched from you. I sold the darker one, kept the lighter one. She is ready to lay this month, at least she looks like it..any min. now. Just beautiful!

I'm familiar with the color blue splash but this rooster has very dark black splotches and patches all over so does that mean he would be considered a different color altogether? And if I breed him to my black hen, according to the blue chart they would just hatch out blue babies? just curious

First the colors a re Blue. black and splash. No such thing as a blue splash. Your bird is blue. It is normal for hackles and wings and saddles to be darker on males.
