Silkie thread!

I got a Show Girl!~
celebrate.gif
I knew she had a show girl, but really didn't expect to get lucky to have one out of the three, and one that is hatching now, looks to be white..can't tell until it's out, and those feathers dry.
I expect the dark egg baby to be black..a marans looking egg.

This is our first go at chickens, so are the buff orps broody from the onset of laying an egg, or only after leaving the eggs on the nest for while?
My other question is will a silkie roo try to fertilize the buffs?

We just plan to eat the eggs for a while, but maybe after a year or so and an addition on the coop and run, we might try hatching a few.

One thing is for sure, if the buffs cause trouble for our silkies I will have no trouble finding the guilty party a new home.
Maybe at that point we can take on an Ameraucana or two.
Right now we're having a bullying issue between two of our silkies that we haven't figured out yet.
I need to get pics of everyone and post them to get a best guess of who is who which might clear it up.
It seems like every question answered brings up four new ones! Lol

Oh, and I'm intrigued by blue eggs!

Silkie roos don't mind what size or colour the hen is. My white Silkie roo mated with my LF gold laced Wyandotte . This was the result. Wylkies!

I have no idea! A lady turned up , fell in love with them and bought the lot. I do have other wylkies though, they are without a doubt my best Broodie's. The best thing about them is whilst they remain bantam in size their eggs are almost standard sized. This little momma lays Wyandotte sized and coloured eggs.

Wyandottes are beautiful. I find they go broody often, in fact, if it weren't for this girl, I wouldn't be where I am today. She went broody, then litterally flew the coop when those chicks pipped. She could hear them, wanted nothing to do with them. I had been told to get a bator just in case the mama thing didn't work out, sooooooo....I loved hatching the little peeps out. And I still love hatching the little peeps. I know the Wyandottes aren't all like this, I just lucked out. :/ Here's the little stinker...BLRW

I do believe they went to calling this color..more of a splash BLRW. Had a few years back.
