Silkie thread!

I have shawls to knit that are due to be done by mid July and the end of July. I am no where near where I need to be at this time.

I just got the giggles imagining everybody checking chicken butts that I couldn't knit. Today was such a wasted day for me. At least I got a good giggle out of it.
Oh okay! You better get a move on, you are running out of time!

I'm glad you got a giggle out of the fun of it all! We all need laughter in our lives!

I started trying to put Buddha in her diaper. She is still a little too small. She was very sweet and patient while I was putting it on her. When I was done she promptly stood up, shook it off, looked me in the eye....and pooped a MOUNTAIN right next to it as a sign of victory! Lol! Oh well, we will try again tomorrow!
someone told me that when they hold their chickens, they hold their but and it makes them wanna hold it. Maybe that's why they want to sleep roosted...so they don't have to "hold it" lol.

I have been told different things now...do Silkies roost? I am going to build a separate house for my sizzles and silkies would love some advice on there perfect coop :)
Mine never roosted! I had a small barn that I took half a bale of hay and spread thru it. I'd find them at night all huddled in one corner snuggled together. Silkies LOVE to snuggle! With themselves and ppl.

can anyone tell if this is a boy or girl?I read something about gold feathers?
I've posted many a post just recently before your's. Go back a few pages and read what I've posted. I'm NO professional and have been wrong before, but not too often! And then sometimes the chick would turn out months later to be something totally opposite of what I said it was.

Cute Cute baby though!

Thank you TC...I am loving theses Silkies. How do you keep yours can you give me advice on the best house for them? Do they need or want a roosting bar?? I have 3 bantam cochins that I don't think I will put with my full size girls do u think they would be okay with the silkies?

This little one keeps me guessing. :) When I got him/her as a 3 day old chick I was told she was lavender, when the first feathers came in I thought blue, then splash, now I'm back to blue. What color is this baby?

You are most welcome!

Mine are house chickens! Your's are going to be good flyers. My cochin flew out of everything I put her in w/o a top on it. LOL I'd catch her out in the yard, roaming around like there wasn't anything to fear! Just about gave her momma a heat attack though!

Our Silkies sleep in different places. Our rooster sleeps in his carrier in the chicken bedroom. My Molly sleeps in a clothes basket with a pillow on the bottom of, an icepack on top of that, a towel on top of that, another towel for pooping on and then a fuzzy blanket over the entire basket! In my bedroom! The icepack keeps her cool and comfortable.

Maria has the house for roaming in while her daddy is in there with her. She sleeps on a pillow set up like Molly has beside her daddy each night in the bed!

Now you know why my user name is TOOCLOSE!

SOOO! I'd say someone else needs to give you ideas on how to fix their sleeping area!

Looks like a splash to me! My Molly is a blue! She's the one in my Avatar. The other is Maria!

There's a show I watched, a long time ago, about the Murray McMurray Hatching place that did a show on how they sexed the chicks. I'm sure it's out there on the internet if anyone is interested in searching for it!

I'm not big on "old wives tales" Fancy! I've just watched, looked and learned along the way. I'm only sharing what *I* know to have been the facts of what *I've* seen and figured out from having chickens! You are way more into the facts and books of the chicken world than I am! And I do value what you tell us! :D  Thanks

I was cleaning my first original six silkies little poopy butts when I noticed the difference(s)! And then of course there was the difference in the ankle feathers I noticed too. This is why I always say the *I* statements for ppl to see it's what *I* have learned!

Can you explain to me the way to tell the gender by their legs, or the feathers on their legs? :)

I provide ladders and lower perches for my silkies. Even a length of 4 x 2 inch pine , turned on its side will give them an opportunity to get off the ground. It's mostly a predator thing but perching also gives them an opportunity to settle their feathers down over their feet to help stay warm in the winter. Piling one on top of the other can also be fatal for the one at the bottom of the pile. Sleeping close to the ground also leaves your chooks more susceptible to upper respiratory issues.
