Silkie thread!

here are my 2-6 day old silkies enjoying a little sunshine and foraging. I desperately wanted a couple white and buff but it looks like I got black and partridge. One of these days I will get my white and buff, haven't been able to find anyone close to me. These came clear from Georgia from a friend who was traveling that way and knew a person with silkies. I sooooo want a white and a buff though.
Not sure where you are at in Illinois, but there are several breeders in Indiana that have white and buff chicks. Check out the Indiana thread or the member's list for names and locations. :)

Does anyone know how Silkies do in winter in southwestern Missouri?
I have Sam and 10 chicks of varying ages and I wanted them for their broodiness. All of a sudden everyone is preparing for winter and it hit me that I don't know how hardy Silkies are for the winter here.

Anyone know?
I have silkies in northern Indiana that were just fine this past winter when the temps were hardly ever above freezing. I did keep a heat light on them, but that only raises the temp about 10 degrees. Guessing since you are further south, your silkies will be fine.

I understand! It's hard to get a good pic with my ipad. I'm thinking there not tho I candle some that the hen sat on awhile and I don't see anything. But I can't see in it that good with my flash light.

I have a piece of the black foam pipe covering stuff around the end of my flashlight, & my bf even literally sewed it together! Lol Cause the glue just wouldn't hold. It helps A LOT! My green eggs, some r soo hard to see in. Lol And I'm too cheap to buy a really good flashlight, this one was like $5 at Walmart.

I hatched out a pair of Silkies from my friend's eggs. They are about 4 months old now - almost grown.

Any ideas on gender, color, and quality? I would love to try and show them at the Fair if they are nice enough. Never shown any poultry there before, but my friend won a Buff Silkie rooster at a show and got his hens from a good breeder in the area who was getting out of chickens, so they could be nice stock, I have no idea, never had a Silkie before!

Opinions?

#1 - Looks buff color with some dark shadings -

#2 - Solid Buff in color

If they are hens, there is a really cute free white rooster across town. But I can't even tell if these are hens or roosters!

I'm new to Silkies.... Just added two chicks to my flock of other egg layer breeds. I also have peafowl and hope to use these broody hens to hatch their eggs.
Anyone close to Frederick MD with Silkies for sale?
