Silkie thread!

I've read somewhere where someone said that because silkies are so tiny they can drown in the egg when hatching if the humidity is too high. Is that true? My humidity in my Octagon Eco 20 is at 50%. But I have 12 duck eggs in there as well. Opinions?

That is true. Raise the humidity on lockdown after you see some pips. What day are you on now? Your humidity is ok for the first 17 days.

I'm on day 16 of 28 for ducks, and the chicken eggs were put in there exactly a week later. And then the day after I added another silkie egg (because everybody "needs" more silkies, right?)

Yes we do:D. You are doing fine. Silkies are a little bit of a challenge to hatch. I set 10 Friday and got 6 today thought about setting them but I am.good right now on babies. Need to get them to laying stage.:)

she loves to sit on eggs n it doesn't matter Wat type of eggs she just hatch 7 ducklings now she sitting on 5 turkey eggs

I did some table topping with some of my cockerels today. I do this to get up close to them, handle them for a couple days, and judge them to other cockerels for quality. Taking pictures helps me see things that are not always easily apparent watching them in the pen or yard.

These are my two F1 Blue Cream (Porcelain) cocks. They are a year old next month. I'm using the one on the left. The one on the right is his full brother but he has what's called crab claws. Some people call it lobster claw. He is my back up but I won't breed him unless I lose my #1 on the left. Those types of toes are hard to get rid of in your flock if they get bred in to much.

This guy is nine months old and is a paint cockerel from my F1 paint pen. I like him so far. His type isn't as great as his sire yet. He also doesn't have a lot of big spots but he will be my back up to his dad if he continues to develop nicely. He has a dripping paint saddle feather. At first I thought something was on my camera lens but it shows up in all the pictures. Hah!

I can't wait to see how my silkies will turn out

I picked up one more from tsc last week with some bantams, I have 2 that are black and grey idk if they will just be black, 2 that are white and yellow the newest was the only I've found like this, its down is white with golden yellow and grey has 2 white stripes, its very cute, I only got one last week because the others were white, I try to pick different ones so I can tell them apart. I have one grey blue and one odd ball, its not a partridge pattern, it has black around its eyes like a partridge its a dark red brown, its wings are coming in barred, but this chick has a regular comb not like a silkie but its black like its skin all have 5 toes. I want to raise chicks from them when they're old enough. Even my oldest that I've had 6 weeks are still so small, I haven't moved them or my bantams outside yet, my standard chicks and ducks are outside now but I'm not ready to move these tiny ones out yet they would run right through my fence. I'm converting littletikes play houses into chicken houses for the ban tams and silkies I thought that'd make a good size for them
