Silkie thread!

@silkiecuddles Thank I'm you and I hope not ether! I have 2 silkies from the same hatch and can't keep a rooster and hen. I am a first time chicken owner so I really have no idea about sex besides what I have read and researched. There is a great thread on silkie sexing but I'm just not sure. The other silkie I have is a few days younger and much smaller than the silkie pictured. The youngest silkie was hatched 6/23/2015. So they are very young still a little over 3 months old.

@thumper362 I guess I will have to wait and see or catch who ever crowed. Hopefully it was my imagination!

I hate to say it , but I would say you have a little roo. The head shots were a little difficult to judge but the top pic here is more telling.

@Fancychooklady the head shot photos did not show it well. I took the photos and held the chicken at the same time. To me I thought my Josie looked like a Joe. We picked that chick because of the beautiful color.

Hai everyone!! So we are 99.9% sure that Nugget (my little buff silkie shown below) is a rooster. I want to trade him for a female with a student at my school, but the student has much higher quality and better preened silkies. Unfortunately, I don't think Nugget knows how to preen himself!! His wing feathers are supper dull and scraggly. Is there any way I could Preen them by hand? Or are his wing feathers a lost cause until he figures it out?

an earlier post, didnt get any feed back, though i did edit it like 15 times * nervous laugh*

Anybody from Arizona got some breeder quality or show quality silkies they are willing to part with?
At the moment, I am traning to breed White Silkies and sell them, but my White Silkie, Yukon, is still about about 3 months off from breeding, let alone laying. Im sure you are loooking for some more recent Silkies, but if you need any in the future, I need to start paying bback the money I owe to my Parents for buying all of my chickens, and the supplies to keep them healthy, so I can keep you posted on when I begin breeding babies. I reccomend County Fairs. there are alot of great birds there.

I agree with Fancychook. That pic looks very rooster like to me, more so than the head shots. Mine are a little over 3 months as well. :hit it's always the sweetest, cutest that end up being males!

I am currently waiting for the first generation to mature enough to breed I no longer have any silkie hens that are breeding age (they died) but luckily I hatched out three pure silkies from them a few months before they died of old age so far of the three I have one confirmed cockerel who started crowing at 2 months old, and I have one breeding age silkie rooster whose crest is mediocre and one even old silkie rooster with a mediocre crest and poor foot feathering he is the father of my oldest silkie chick, I have one pet quality silkie rooster as well he has a better crest and foot feathers than the other two but he has a single comb, despite the single comb I used him and two of the younger silkies are his babies
