Silkie thread!

Is this the right type of comb for a silkie rooster?

Bringing up the sexing actually leads me to my own question. What age can you start to tell the gender on Silkie's or start to at least make a guess on them? My babies are 4 weeks going on 5 weeks and I am chomping at the bit to see if I have pairs or not.

Depends on how well you know the line you're working with and the color. Partridge silkies are much easier to sex than the others since the males and females will start to turn different colors. Sometimes it's just really hard to tell, though, until they are adults

Agree, it really comes down to your line of breeding and becoming familiar with what to look for in that line. I'm fairly confident of sexing my line around 8-10 weeks.

Wild guessing here since they are only 4 weeks, but I think the one on the left is female and the one on the right is male. I'll find out when they get much older.

And this is the reason why I have problems taking pictures. They do NOT appreciate the tongue, no matter how much she likes them

It's looking like I need to not use the odd hen for breeding unless I'm just trying to have a few fun birds. Bleh. I have no idea on her breeding so no idea where THIS came from or what it's trying to be. It'll be pretty at least and since it's light colored I'll use it for pictures. I think it's a male.

Ridiculously Adorable! Love the pics!!!

Hi! I know it's really early to tell but... any guesses on the sex of these little cuties? They are 6-7 weeks old.

It's a 50/50 guess at this age. The only Silkies that ID early are the Partridge because there is a striking difference in coloration between the two sexes. All other colors - GUESS or wait and see.
